Javier Valentin's (VAL'-ehn-teenz) first homer
of the season capped Cincinnati's comeback in an 8-to-7 win over
Washington.
Valentin belted a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the bottom of the
eighth to put the Reds ahead to stay for the first time. The blast
followed and R-B-I double by Scott Hatteberg, who also homered and
drove in four runs.
Ken Griffey Junior smacked his 572nd homer, moving him within
one of Harmon Killibrew for eighth on the all-time list.
Ryan Zimmerman, Dmitri Young and Austin Kearns drove in two runs
apiece for the Nationals, who led 6-to-0 after an inning and
a-half.
Jon Coutlangus (KOOT'-lang-us) improved to 2-and-0 with help
from David Weathers' ninth save. Jon Rauch fell to 2-and-1 by
serving up Valentin's home runs.
