Herbert Hoover made good on its first trip to the Class Double-A championship game.
Josh Berthisel pitched a complete game and had two hits to help
the Huskies beat Grafton 3-to-1 today at Appalachian Power Park in
Grafton had a chance to tie the game in the seventh inning,
putting runners at second and third base with two out. But
Berthisel, who struck out ten batters for the game, got a called
third strike on Grafton's Zack Stemple to end the contest.
Grafton also was appearing in the championship game for the
Grafton opened the scoring in the first inning on an infield
error. Herbert Hoover took the lead for good with two runs in the
third. Nathan Cooper singled and eventually scored on a wild
pickoff throw to third base. Berthisel then doubled and Evan
Shamblin scored on the play when the Grafton catcher dropped the
Herbert Hoover scored its final run in the fourth on James
White's R-B-I single.
