NEW YORK (AP) - Tom Glavine earned his 298th win with a superb
performance and the New York Mets nipped the Cincinnati Reds
2-to-1. Lastings Milledge's tiebreaking single with two outs in the
eighth inning gave the Mets the lead.
Glavine is 8-and-6. He allowed only two hits, including Brandon
Phillips' homer, in eight innings. He struck out five. He's
27-and-12 lifetime against Cincinnati. The two-time Cy Young Award
winner is closing in on becoming the 22nd major league pitcher to
win 300 games.
Shawn Green hit an R-B-I single and scored the go-ahead run for
the Mets.
