Vick ordered to stay away from Falcons camp

NEW YORK (AP) - Michael Vick has been ordered by commissioner
Roger Goodell (GUH'-dehl) to stay away from the Atlanta Falcons'
training camp until the league reviews the dogfighting charges
against him.
Goodell says he has a "responsibility" to enforce N-F-L
personal conduct policies. He says he respects Vick's right to
defend himself in court but the league has an obligation to conduct
its own review of Vick's latest actions.
Vick is scheduled to be in court in Richmond, Virginia, Thursday
for bond hearings and arraignments on charges he sponsored a
dogfighting operation. Vick and three co-defendants will be asked
to enter pleas to the felony charges, and a date for the federal
trial likely will be set during the arraignment.
The N-F-L says Vick would get his preseason pay. But Goodell
says he told the Falcons to withhold any disciplinary action of
their own until the league's review was completed.
Animal-rights advocates and their dogs gathered today outside
Atlanta Falcons headquarters, calling for Vick's suspension
following his indictment.
