Dale Earnhardt Incorporated is absorbing Ginn Racing to give it a four-car team in time for this weekend's race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
D-E-I will immediately add the number-oh-one Chevrolet, which is
co-driven by Mark Martin and rookie Aric Almirola. It will take the
season points from Ginn's number-14 team and apply them to D-E-I's
number-15 entry of Paul Menard.
Dale Earnhardt Junior will continue to drive the number-eight
Chevrolet for D-E-I for the remainder of the season.
In a telephone interview today with The Associated Press, Ginn
said his team could have survived without merging, but they would
have wound up taking on lesser sponsors. Ginn says "We would have
had to continue to cut costs, and that is disgraceful to me."
