The West Virginia Power won the 1st game of a best of 2 series for the Northern Division Championship.
The Power defeated the Hickory Crawdads 12-2
Taylor Green scored West Virginia's 1st run of the game in the 2nd inning on a home run, but the Crawdads tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on a fielder's choice.
The Power took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 3rd when Brent Brewer scored on a sacrifice fly by Chuck Caufield.
The Crawdads Bobby Kingsbury tied the game in the 4th with a home run.
Charlie Fermaint started a 5 run 5th inning for the Power with a two run homer.
Matt LaPorta's double sent Chuck Caufield home and a double by Taylor Green scored Kenny Holmberg and LaPorta.
The Power added four more runs in the top of the 6th on sacrifice flies by Kenny Holmberg and Taylor Green, a single by John Alonso and a double by Steve Chapman.
Matt LaPorta scored the final run of the game on a ground out by John Alonso in the 8th inning.
Alex Periard picked up the win.
The Power return home for game two Friday night.
