West Virginia University football coach Rich Rodriguez has signed a contract extension through the 2013 season.
Athletic director Ed Pastilong says the extension includes 1.3 million dollars in compensation, with the opportunity for additional money.
Rodriguez turned down a coaching offer from Alabama in December to accept the new WVU contract.
The Mountaineers are ranked third in The Associated Press Top 25 poll and feature quarterback Pat White and running back Steve Slaton, who are both Heisman Trophy contenders. WVU defeated Western Michigan 62-24 in the season opener last week and play at Marshall on Saturday.
