CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- After starting the season 3-0, the Capital Cougars have suffered back-to-back losses.
After trailing 10-0 at halftime, the Cougars battled back last Friday to take a 20-17 lead over Hurricane. However, the Redskins rallied in the final minutes of the 4th quarter to take the 23-20 win over Capital.
Cougars' head coach Jon Carpenter says losing the heartbreaking games to Hurricane and South Charleston in consecutive weeks has been a learning lesson for his team.
"We're young," Coach Carpenter said. "They're disappointed, but they know just as easy as we lost two, they could have won two. So, we haven't had a problem with working all year. So, they'll be excited to get back out here and get started this week."
The biggest problem for Capital has been the inexperience of the team's players.
"It's just little tiny things that we need to fix," Coach Carpenter said. "Unfortunately, we don't have the experience to keep those things from happening. So, we're getting a dose of experience real quick.
The Cougars will look to get back on track this Friday with a home game against the Riverside Warriors. Carpenter knows there will be pressure on both teams to pick up the win, and get the season back on track.
"We know for Riverside this will be a big game for them as it is for us," Carpenter said. "We know they'll fight like heck down here Friday night. Our guys just have to just take each game one at a time, have fun and stay together."
