HAMILTON, Ontario – Marshall concluded its five-day Canadian tour with a 83-71 win over A Game Hoops Tuesday evening at Burridge Gymnasium on the campus of McMaster University.

It was a tiring game with the Herd playing its fifth game in five days - all wins - and A Game playing with just seven players – actually started the game with five.

“It’s exactly what we thought, five games in five days, we were really tired,” said head coach Tom Herrion. “But we found a way.”

Senior Elijah Pittman scored a team-high 22 points on 9-of-21 shooting and had eight rebounds. Redshirt freshman Kareem Canty had 16 points, four assists and four rebounds while sophomore Tamron Manning rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Herd with 11 points and added five assists.

A Game scored the first four points of the game, but soon relinquished the lead as Marshall outscored the team from Toronto, 16-6 the remainder of the quarter. The Herd shot 45.9 percent for the half, held A Game to 29.4 percent and took a 40-29 lead into halftime.

Marshall began the second half with a 10-4 run to take a 50-33 lead, its largest of the game, with 6:51 to play in the third quarter. However, A Game went on a 19-3 run to decrease the Herd lead 53-52 with 2:20 remaining in the period. A Game neither tied nor took the lead in the period as the Herd went into the fourth with a 59-57 lead.

“Unfortunately we gave up a healthy lead at the end of the third quarter. Our bench gave us great minutes, a lot of guys stepped up.”

The fourth quarter was all Marshall as it outscored A Game 24-14.

The Herd shot 45.8 percent from the field and held A Game to 34.3 percent. Marshall received solid production from its bench with 33 points.

A Game, which was 9-for-31 from three-point range, was led by Tut Rauch with 28 points and nine rebounds. He played all 40 minutes and was 10-of-20 from the field.

“To play five games in five days, it’s something to build on,” Herrion said. “We have light years to go. But this is really something we can build off of as we move into the start of the season.”
