JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Tarvin Gaines scored 23 points and Jacksonville State led wire-to-wire in a 70-59 victory over Morehead State on Saturday night in Ohio Valley Conference play.

The Gamecocks (15-7, 7-4), who won their third straight game, avenged a quarterfinal loss to the Eagles in last season's OVC tournament.

Jacksonville State won convincingly despite being outrebounded 37-15 and getting only one offensive board. Morehead State had only a 12-2 advantage in second-chance points.

The Gamecocks started the game with an 11-0 spurt. After the Eagles (11-13, 5-5) got within four, at 18-14, Gaines scored seven points in another 11-0 burst to pull away.

Jacksonville State took its largest lead, 58-36, with 14 minutes left.

Ronnie Boggs added 19 points and Brian Williams 18 for the Gamecocks.

Jourdan Stickler came off the bench to lead Morehead State with 12 points and Milton Chavis and Drew Kelly had 10 apiece.
