LEXINGTON, KY (WSAZ) -- Kentucky avoids an upset and advances to the super regionals of the NCAA tournament.

After defeating Marshall and Virginia Tech, the Wildcats would need one more victory to claim the regional championship. It would not come easy.

UK fell to Virginia Tech in the 1:00 pm game Sunday afternoon which forced the two teams into a “win or go home” scenario. After a short break, both teams hit the field for a second game and offense was at a premium.

The first run of the game did not come until the fifth inning when the ball was bobbled at first base by Virginia Tech, allowing the go ahead run to come home.

With the victory Kentucky advances to the Super regionals of the NCAA tournament. That will be a best of three game with either Arizona State or Georgia, depending on the finish of their game.
