HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall men’s and women’s basketball hosted the annual Green and White Scrimmage at Cam Henderson Center, Thursday evening.
The evening’s events began with the women’s squad performing drills and possession plays before launching into two 10-minute periods of scrimmage play. The team rotated lineups to showcase the entire 2013-14 roster, which includes 10 new faces.
One of those new faces is 6’0” freshman guard Kiana Evans (Huntington). The Huntington High School alumna played her first minutes on the Cam Henderson Center court in front of a crowd of 3,367.
The men’s scrimmage ended in exciting fashion as a last-second alley-oop from redshirt freshman guard Kareem Canty (Harlem, N.Y.) to DeVince Boykins (Forest City, N.C.) lifted the team dressed in black over green 69-68. Senior forward Elijah Pittman (Covington, Ky.) led all players with 26 points. Canty had a double-double with 16 points and 12 assists along with redshirt freshman Ryan Taylor (Indianapolis, Ind.) with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
At halftime of the men’s scrimmage, coach Tom Herrion chose a student by raffle to try a half-court shot to win a new car. He missed the shot, but tried for a 3-pointer to win $1,000. He missed again. Finally, the fan was offered to try for layup to win an iPad Mini, and drained it.
