WORTHINGTON, Ohio (AP) - Ironton's Nathan Kerns built a big lead and then subdued his nerves after a late double-bogey to capture the 106th Ohio Amateur championship by two shots on Friday.
The Marshall University senior - he was greeted by a "We are ... Marshall!" cheer by his followers after tapping in for par on the 72nd hole - shot a 2-over 74 to finish at 6-under 282.
Second was former Ohio State player Alex Redfield (70) at 284, with another ex-Buckeyes player, Kevin Grabeman (71), alone in third at 286.
Kerns led by six shots at one point then faltered with a four-putt double on the 16th. But he closed with two routine pars - drives in the fairway, then hitting the green and two putting - to end any suspense.
