CHARLESTON, W.Va -- The West Virginia Power defeated the Hagerstown Suns 6-1 Tuesday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park. Walker Gourley went 3-3 with two RBIs and a pair of runs in the Power victory.
West Virginia scored the first two runs in the third inning. Josh Bell hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Gourley, and Barrett Barnes scored on a throwing error by Pedro Severino.
The Power added three more runs in the fourth. Gourley drove home Raul Fortunato with a one-out single. With two men in scoring position, Dilson Herrera hit a double to left-center, scoring Francisco Diaz and Gourley.
Leading 5-0, the Power lead was cut to four after an RBI single by Tony Renda in the fifth. In the sixth, Gourley hit an RBI single, scoring Diaz for the second time in the game.
Ryan Hafner (5-0) earned the win in relief after tossing three innings of one hit ball, while striking out one batter. Brett Mooneyham (3-2) took the loss. Clay Holmes pitched four innings of one-run ball, allowing two hits while walking four and striking out five.
West Virginia and Hagerstown will conclude their three-game series Wednesday night. John Kuchno will start for the Power against Hagerstown southpaw Nick Lee. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
