(Hickory, NC- June 5, 2014)- The West Virginia Power lost 7-6 to the Hickory Crawdads in 12 innings on Thursday night at L.P. Frans Stadium. The Power fought back with four runs in the eighth and ninth to send it to extras before a Joe Jackson RBI double won the game in the 12th.
The Crawdads got started in the first on a Jackson sacrifice fly followed by a throwing error that plated a run. The Power responded with a pair in the second with a run crossing on a Crawdads error followed by a wild pitch that brought home Erich Weiss.
The ‘Dads responded with a solo blast off the bat of Kellin Deglan to take the lead back in the second and in the third blew the game open on a three-run home run from Nomar Mazara.
Both teams were held scoreless from that point on until in the eighth the Power struck for three runs. Hickory reliever Daniel Bard hit JaCoby Jones with the bases loaded bringing home Harold Ramirez. Danny Collins plated another run with a sacrifice fly followed by a Candon Myles RBI bloop single to cut the lead to one. Then, in the ninth with two outs, Jones delivered an RBI single to extend the game to extra innings.
The Crawdads, however, would score in the 12th when Joe Jackson lined a ball down the right field line for a walk-off RBI double giving the Power their fifth-straight loss.
Henry Hirsch (0-3) was charged with the loss while Ryne Slack (5-1) earned the win for Hickory.
West Virginia will take on the Hickory Crawdads on Friday, June 6, at L.P. Frans Stadium. Power starter Buddy Borden will take the hill against the Crawdads Tyler Smith. The Power return home on June 9, for a seven-game homestand starting with the Greensboro Grasshoppers
