Power gets Split in Lexington

Lexington, KY, July 25, 2013): The West Virginia Power split their two games against the Lexington Legends Thursday. The Power lost the resumption of the suspended game from July 6th by a 3-2 final and defeated the Legends 4-3 in Thursday’s regularly scheduled game in ten innings.

West Virginia scored their first run of the first game in the third inning. Walker Gourley hit a one out single and advanced to third on a by Barrett Barnes, then Dilson Herrera hit a ground ball to short, scoring Gourley.

Lexington’s offense took over in the next two innings. The Legends scored one in the fourth on a Cam Gallagher RBI double and then scored two in the fifth. Raul Mondesi hit an RBI triple and later scored on a wild pitch.

John Kuchno (5-5) took the loss in game one, tossing five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits. Aroni Nina (6-3) received the win by tossing five innings in relief. John Walter picked up his fifth save of the season.

The Legends took the first lead of the second game in the fourth inning. Mark Threlkeld led off the inning with a single, stole second, and later scored on a Mark Donato single to left.

The Power struck back in the fifth inning and tied the game. Francisco Diaz drew a one-out walk and with two outs, scored on a Max Moroff RBI single.

Moroff gave the Power their first lead in the seventh inning. With one out, Moroff hit his sixth home of the season, a two-run home run scoring, scoring Diaz for the second time in the game.

In the seventh, the Legends scored two runs to tie the ballgame. Fred Ford hit an RBI double, scoring Cam Gallagher and Gore Terrence Gore hit an RBI single, scoring Ford.

West Virginia took their final lead in the 10th inning after back-to-back errors by the Lexington defense. Jordan Steranka proved to be the winning run for the Power.

Cesar Lopez (1-1) picked up the win for the Power in relief. Clay Holmes received a no decision after tossing six innings and striking out ten batters while allowing just one run. Kevin Allen (2-1) took the loss.

West Virginia continues their series with the Legends Friday night at Whitaker Bank Park. John Kuchno will pitch for the Power against the Legends’ Miguel Almonte with first pitch scheduled for 7:05.
