ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- After starting the season 0-7, the St. Albans Red Dragons were finally able to pick up their first win of the season, and in thrilling fashion.
St. Albans' Senior Drew Kirby scored a touchdown in overtime to give the Red Dragons the 20-14 win over Ripley on Senior Night.
"I was so glad to win on my senior night because even though we were 0-7, there was a huge student section," Kirby said. "They were filled all the way to the top of the stands, and I just wanted to get a win for my students."
It's St. Albans first win in its last 10 games dating back to last season. Now, the Red Dragon players and coaches hope it leads to some momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
"For me it was relief," St. Albans Head Coach Stev Stoffel Jr. Said. "These kids have worked hard over the last seven or eight weeks. So, they paid the price and finally got a chance to see what it feels like to win around here."
St. Albans looks to add to the win total this Friday on the road against Licoln County (0-7).
