PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin challenged his players to respond with character after a lackluster loss to Denver in the season's opening week.

They did it in dominant fashion.

The Steelers crushed New York in the second half of a 27-10 victory, putting the clamps on the Jets' offense and wearing down New York's defense with a bruising ball control offense led by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Pittsburgh cornerback Ike Taylor says the defense just needed to find its footing after a shaky start. The Steelers gave up just 91 yards in the second half, most of them coming on a meaningless last-minute drive by New York.

Tomlin says it's important for his team to keep the momentum going. The Steelers (1-1) travel to winless Oakland (0-2) on Sunday.
