LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky forward Alex Poythress has been named Southeastern Conference freshman of the week honors after back-to-back 20-point games.
It's the first weekly award for the 6-foot-7 Poythress, who had 20 points with a team-high eight rebounds in a 75-68 loss to No. 9 Duke last Tuesday. He topped that performance by shooting 9 of 10 shooting for a career-high 22 points in Friday's win over Lafayette.
Poythress averaged 21.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in both games and became the first freshman since Brandon Knight in February 2011 with consecutive 20-point efforts.
The No. 8 Wildcats (2-1) play Morehead State Wednesday night at Rupp Arena.
