WVU Officials Urge Fans to Behave Responsibly
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia University is urging fans to behave responsibly Saturday, when the 17th-ranked Mountaineers face No. 4 Kansas State in Morgantown.
WVU Police Chief Bob Roberts says he understands fans are excited about the nationally televised game, but they must support the team safely and responsibly.
Two weeks ago, students and others set 40 street fires, and threw bottles and bricks at police in partying that rapidly escalated to rioting.
Police say they're ready to control any new uprising but won't divulge their tactics.
On Facebook, the university urged fans to ignore some Kansas State fans who mocked West Virginians with online comments and an offensive, stereotype-driven video.
WVU relayed a tweet from Kansas State president Kirk Schulz, who says he's proud to have West Virginia in the Big 12.
