Marshall Holds Off UNC Wilmington for 61-58 Win

HUNTINGTON, W.VA. (AP) -- DeAndre Kane scored 16 points to lead four players in double figures as Marshall beat UNC Wilmington 61-58 on Saturday.

Elijah Pittman had 13 points for the Thundering Herd (5-3), D.D. Scarver had 12, and Nigel Spikes scored 10 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.

The Seahawks (3-4) were led by Craig Ponder's 26 points.

The Herd outrebounded the Seahawks 39-30, and Marshall made 16 of 26 from the free-throw line to UNC Wilmington's 3 of 6.

The game was tied at 28 at the break, but the Seahawks took a 36-31 lead on Matt Wilson's free throw 3:03 into the second half. The Herd took a 39-38 lead on Pittman's jumper in the back-and-forth contest.

The final tie came at 58-all with 21 seconds to go on a free throw by Kane, who made the second for a 59-58 lead, and Marshall held off UNC Wilmington for the victory.
