Marshall Golfer Leads Ohio Amateur

WORTHINGTON, Ohio (AP) - Marshall University senior Nathan Kerns blitzed through a bogey-free, 6-under 66 round to forge a two-shot lead after Tuesday's opening of the 106th Ohio Amateur.

The Ironton native had six birdies will little stress at the narrow, tree-lined 6,942-yard, par-72 Brookside Golf & Country Club.

Kevin Grabeman, a former Ohio State player and Brookside member, was next at 68. In third with a 69 were college players Mac McLaughlin, Kyle Kmiecik, Nathan Clark and Thomas Dunne. Past champions Andrew Montooth and Steve Anderson each shot 71. Defending champ Korey Ward, a sophomore at Xavier, shot a 73.
