New York, NY (WSAZ) -- The New York Jets have released quarterback Chad Pennington. The announcement was made by Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum.

“I appreciate everything Chad Pennington has given to the Jets organization,” Jets chairman and CEO Woody Johnson said. “He was a part of my first draft as an owner in 2000 and has exemplified nothing but class both on and off the field. I wish him, Robin, Luke and Cole my very best.”

“I have all the respect in the world for Chad as a person and a player,” said Tannenbaum. “We have accomplished a lot of great things with Chad, including winning playoff games, which is very hard to do. He gave his heart and soul to this organization for a long, long time. I really appreciate everything he has done.”

Yep, anon at 11:11 p.m., look at what happens when you give someone your heart and your foot. That's why I recommend only giving your heart. What are you supposed to do with only one foot! Thank goodness he didn't give away his heart and soul, then he'd have a problem.

i think zack wilson should be the next QB for the jets

give them your heart and sole and look what they do

Chad is/was a good quarterback and had character..something a lot of nfl QB's lack (I'm looking at you, Vick!) But, the jets were already shopping for a quarterback. I don't think Favre came in and rattled the Jets organization to hire him. They wanted rid of Pennington anyway due to his years of service and past injuries. I wish Chad the best of luck, and I hope he lands with a team that appreciates him and much as the local area here does.

Welcome to the business world! Seriously, one of the characteristics I can't stand about this area is that everything is taken so personally. Folks, this is business. The NFL is a corporation. They make money . They may love him as a person but he has not been performing for at least the last couple of years. His days were numbered. Stop trying to insult Favre for doing what is good for him. Jets staff is not taking this personally. I seriously doubt Pennington is taking this personally. Favre is not taking this personally. Testeverde didn't take it personally when Pennington earned the top spot on the depth chart. He is not the first and won't be the last football player cut. This does not personally affect any of you. Get over it.

Chad is one class act. True leader in the sport and in his life style. WV citizens should be very proud to have been blessed with this gentleman playing for our state at Marshalls. I wish you the best in the world. You deserve it big guy!

He's not the only one to be released yesterday. I released my bowels when I read the story.

Posted by: mary on Aug 8, 2008 at 01:18 PM
I am both a Favre fan AND a Chan. Now we know how Testeverde's family and friends felt when Chad took Testeverde's job. Chad knows the game. Even though this is not the best of situations for Chad, he will come out ahead in the long run with the full support of his family, friends, and fans. You can't keep a good quarterback down !!!!

Chad needs to hang it up, punch his card, put his lunchbox in the cabinet. He's done. He should come back next year and coach Marshall because after this season there will be a head coaching vacancy.

Well, I just watched the throning of King Brett the 1st. I did not realize how cockey this guy is. Chad was too classy for a whole like NYC anyway. Noe the bums have a bum to cheer for. Chad has and will be a class act. He needs a class organization to go to. I Hope Farve enjoys being chased around the back field like Chad was.. No line is still no line to me.

Chad is definitely a class act and where ever he goes, I will follow him....Once again Chad, Thank You for everything you have done for the children from this area and other areas as well.....

favre isnt going to last either, he will be on the bench like chad was, the jets dont have the offensive line to keep anybody healthy

Posted by: Kyle on Aug 7, 2008 at 09:31 PM
Favre will get beat on too, once he experiences the Jets offensive line and their ill-fated offence as a whole. Any QB stood a chance of injury having to play behind a leaking wall he had protecting him the last few years. That's not green/white loyalty, it's simply the facts. Mangini will experience his head on the block next. Hang in there Chad.

i like chad pennington. brett favre i do not like anymore. go chad

Posted by: Bill on Aug 7, 2008 at 09:18 PM
I hope the Dolphins pick him up. Knowing Dan Marino was nearing the end of his career, the Fins should have drafted him then. Of course Jimmy Johnson and every Dolphins coaching staff since then (aside from the Parcells' staff) have made nothing but stupid draft decisions.

Snyder should be ringing his phone off today to get him to come qb`s at Marshall. He was too much class for NY

Posted by: Brandy on Aug 7, 2008 at 08:08 PM
Favre needs to give it up and needed to give it up a long time ago. I think he is just doing it for show, and needs to let the younger better athletes have their time to shine.

Posted by: J on Aug 7, 2008 at 07:54 PM
Nothing against Chad Pennington, but NFL is the bigs - How many games did he have to sit out because of injury? No employer is going to continue to pay $$$ to someone sitting on the bench.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 7, 2008 at 07:47 PM
Everyone get past your Marshall green and see this as what it is. It is the NFL about making money and winning games not loyalty to Marshall. The gets did exactly what was best for them. They got a winner of a QB that will play everyday. Hurt again whatever I would take Farve at 50% over Pennington at 100% which he hasn't been in years. Pennington does appear to be a great guy but this is business not friendship. Pennington will still have many years most likely as a backup which any of us would do for that kind of money. Pennington's time was numbered with or without them getting Farve.

Chad Pennington will come out on top-just wait and see. I'm glad he is out of NY

Posted by: FAN OF CHAD on Aug 7, 2008 at 05:36 PM
I HOPE THE NYJ LOSE EVERY BALLGAME, FAVRE RETIRED AND SHOULD OF STAYED RETIRED, CHAD HAS MORE CLASS IN HIS LITTLE FINGER THAN FAVRE HAS IN HIS WHOLE BODY, YOU'LL BE BETTER OFF CHAD!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 7, 2008 at 04:50 PM
Lets go Herd!!!! Chad your gonna rock wherever you play

Posted by: me on Aug 7, 2008 at 04:39 PM
Agree with you C.J.

PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL IS A JOKE. MAYBE IF PENNINGTON SMOKED MARIJUANA AND CARRIED A GUN THE JETS WOULD HAVE KEPT HIM. GOOD LUCK CHAD! YOU ARE A TRUE PROFESSIONAL AND HOPEFULLY A RESPECTABLE TEAM IN THE NFL WILL SEE THAT!

Posted by: SP on Aug 7, 2008 at 04:29 PM
This is a bad situation. I am a Farve fan, but this way dirty to Chad. Farve will only be in NY one season and once he is hurt again they will kiss him goodbye. I hope Chad knows how much everyone respects him for the wonderful, kind, giving man he is.

Posted by: C.J. on Aug 7, 2008 at 04:18 PM
Chad is a great quarterback..he will be the winner in this situation. Guess I will have to root for a new team now. New York did not deserve him, he has to much class for them.
