MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (September 24, 2008) – West Virginia University will tip off the 2008-09 men’s and women’s basketball seasons with Mountaineer Madness presented by Full Throttle Friday, Oct.
10, at 9:30 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum. Admission to the event is free with gates opening at 8:30 p.m.

A laser light show, a slam dunk contest and a two-ball competition between both teams highlight just a few of the events that will occur. Other festivities include the introduction of both the men’s and women’s squads, team scrimmages and speeches from women’s coach Mike Carey and men’s coach Bob Huggins.

Additional events include t-shirt give-a-ways, highlight videos of both teams and performances from the Mountaineer pep band, cheerleaders and dance team. MSN play-by-play announcer Tony Caridi will emcee the event.

Mountaineer fans can also get a first look at the new enhancements made to the WVU Coliseum. The new state-of-the-art video board, lights, sound system and floor design are just some of the highlights that will enhance the atmosphere for Mountaineer fans.

Mountaineer Madness presented by Full Throttle will begin with the men’s and women’s team autograph sessions on the Coliseum floor from 8:45 to 9:15 p.m.

The Mountaineer women’s team won 25 games last season and advanced to the NCAA Second Round for the second consecutive season. The WVU men’s team won 26 games last season and advanced to the NCAA Sweet
16 for the third time in the last four years.
