VIENNA, W.Va. (AP) - Things are looking good so far for
defending Class Single-A champion Wheeling Central in the state
high school softball tournament, which got under way today.
The Maroon Knights beat Buffalo 5-to-1 and Moorefield 7-to-1
today in the double-elimination tournament at Vienna's Jackson
Park. Wheeling Central advances to the championship game tomorrow
afternoon, where the Maroon Knights will face the winner of
tomorrow's Buffalo-Moorefield game.
In Triple-A, Huntington defeated East Fairmont 7-to-1 and Lewis
County 5-to-3 to advance to tomorrow's championship game. The
Highlanders will face the winner of tomorrow's Nicholas
County-Lewis County game.
In Double-A, Chapmanville and Shady Spring won their first-round
games by identical 8-to-1 scores.
The teams eliminated today are East Fairmont in Triple-A,
Braxton County in Double-A, and Fayetteville in Single-A.

Huntington 7, East Fairmont 1
Lewis County 2, Nicholas County 1
Nicholas County 1, East Fairmont 0
Huntington 5, Lewis County 3.
Thursday
Game 5: Nicholas County (19-7) vs. Lewis County (25-8), 9:30
a.m.
Game 6: Huntington (24-8) vs. Game 5 winner, 2 p.m.
If necessary, second championship game, 30 minutes after
previous game.
Class AA
Wednesday
Chapmanville 8, Ritchie County 1
Shady Spring 8, Braxton County 1
Ritchie County 9, Braxton County 0
Game 4: Chapmanville (25-9) vs. Shady Spring (17-9), 30 minutes
after Game 3.
Thursday
Game 5: Ritchie County (25-10) vs. Chapmanville-Shady Spring
loser, 10:30 a.m.
Game 6: Chapmanville-Shady Spring winner vs. Game 5 winner, 5
p.m.
If necessary: second championship game, 30 minutes after
previous game.
