CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia's porous defense is on the verge of cementing its place in school history.

The Mountaineers (5-3, 2-3 Big 12) are giving up 50 points per game in conference play. Heading into Saturday's game at Oklahoma State (5-3, 3-2), they are 47 points away from shattering the single-season school record of 364 points allowed, set in 1978.

And there is still at least four games left.

Mercifully, the school doesn't list a record for single-season yards allowed. The Mountaineers are allowing an average of 483 - 92 more than any West Virginia team over the past decade.

Fans have debated whether defensive coordinator Joe DeForest's 3-4 scheme is any better than the 3-3-5 of predecessor Jeff Casteel, whose current Arizona defense is allowing an average of 498.
