PITTSBURGH (AP) - Gonzaga's reward for a 14th straight NCAA tournament appearance was a cross-country trip to face one of the nation's most physical teams in West Virginia.
The seventh-seeded Bulldogs wouldn't have it any other way.
Gonzaga (25-6) faces the 10th-seeded Mountaineers (19-13) in the second round Thursday at Consol Energy Center eager to prove it can mix it up against a Big East team.
The Bulldogs know there's a perception that West Coast Conference teams are soft, but forward Robert Sacre says he's seen a change in mindset in recent years and that WCC teams are getting tougher.
Gonzaga will have to be tough playing 2,200 miles away from home against West Virginia, located just 75 miles south. Sacre says it's hardly the first time the Bulldogs will play in a hostile environment.
