An Emmy award winning anchor, Melanie Shafer rejoined the WSAZ family in July 2000. She co-anchors the morning newscast from 5-7am with Rob Johnson and produces special reports throughout the year. Melanie's first tour in Huntington began July 1993 with the genesis of First at Five. She co-anchored and reported for that broadcast through 1996. For four years Melanie worked in Pittsburgh, PA at the ABC affiliate WTAE-TV, co-anchoring the morning news. After the birth of their first child, Melanie and her husband returned home to West Virginia and family.
Melanie has received awards for her reporting on breast cancer and crime prevention. A self proclaimed fabric hoarder, Melanie has continued her 4-H sewing to this day and has also adopted scrapbooking as a new favorite hobby. She lives in Huntington with her husband and five children... four sons and a daughter.
