Meteorologist Chris Bailey is the newest member of the First Warning Weather Team. But, Chris is hardly a newcomer to the region. Born and raised in Salyersville, Kentucky, Chris is very familiar with the wide range of weather conditions that affect our region.
Chris earned his BA degree in Broadcasting from Morehead State University and graduated from the Meteorology program at Mississippi State University. He is a member of the National Weather Association (NWA) and the American Meteorological Society (AMS).
Chris started his broadcasting career at a young age. He got his first chance to deliver weather reports on television when he was a weather watcher for a Lexington, Ky. television station. While in the 5th grade, a huge flood hit his hometowm and the tv station let Chris do a live phone report describing the conditions. Chris would eventually get to work for that same tv station, WKYT-TV. That's where he's been delivering daily weather forecasts for the past 10 years.
During his time in Lexington, Chris got to forecast and deliver breaking weather information for several huge events. Everything from a devestating ice storm to an F3 tornado which touched down only 5 miles from his home.
Growing up in Kentucky, Chris is an avid Kentucky Wildcat fan. Whether it's following the Cats to the SEC Tourny in basketball or tailgating at Commonwealth Stadium in the Fall, Chris is usually there to cheer on the big blue. Of course, having grown up in eastern Kentucky, Chris knows all about the tradition of Marshall and WVU and has followed their programs through the years.
Being at WSAZ is nothing new to Chris. One of his fondest memories as a child was getting to meet Mr. Cartoon and Beeper when he was only 4 years old. Yes... he has the pictures to prove it!
WSAZ.com will be the home to Chris's popular weather blog he is bringing with him from his old station. When he's not on air doing the weather at 5pm, 5:30pm or on myZ at ten o' clock, you will usually find him by the computer updating his blog. During breaking weather events, Chris will sometimes go live with the blog and have a Q and A with his bloggers and is known to have multiple posts on any given day.
Chris and his wife Scarlett live in Ashland, Ky. where they are busy raising their 5 year old daughter.
