HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Special Metals and United Steelworkers Local 40 have donated $35,000 to the Huntington Area Food Bank.

Employees and the company have been putting money aside for sometime, and recently decided to distribute it to the Food Bank.

“We are encouraged by what the Food Bank does in our community,” Greg Kingery, president, local 40 said. “Being able to help so many people in such a large area is important and we know Huntington Area Food Bank can feed so many.”

The donation will allow HAFB to distribute 280,000 meals to those who need it most.

“We couldn’t be happier with this donation,” Debra Johnson-Tourigny, Board President of, Huntington Area Food Bank. “Our first purchase with this money will be fresh produce, it’s something we sometimes take for granted, but the people we will serve rarely get.” HAFB receives products from Feeding America, USDA, local donors, regional grocers, restaurants, farmers, food manufacturers and food processors.
