GREENUP, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Greenup City Council members on Tuesday proposed a 1.5 percent occupation tax to help pay off the city's debts.
During first reading of the ordinance Tuesday, several residents openly complained. Some were not happy about the tax percentage being higher than in nearby Ashland and Russell.
Greenup Mayor Lundie Meadows says council will be having a second reading of the ordinance, possibly at a special meeting some time in the next two weeks.
Council members could decide to lower the tax before the ordinance possibly goes into effect.
