HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Tri-State Transit Authority (TTA) will raise its basic fare from 75 cents to $1 on June 30 due to the rising price of gasoline.

The basic Dial-A-Ride fare will increase from $1.50 to $2.00.

Under the new terms, Seniors and Medicare card holders (who pay half-fares) will increase from 35 cents to 50 cents. The price of an unlimited ride pass for a day will go from $3 to $4.

The unlimited ride 31-Day pass will also increase in cost, going from $30 to $35.

TTA says the zone fare of 25 cents will not increase.

In a release, TTA's Chief Executive Office, Vickie Shaffer, said TTA purchases about 7,000 gallons of fuel each week, and diesel prices have increase $1.75 a gallon. That means costs have increased 57%.

The last rate hike was back in 2005.

TTA will hold a public hearing June 10 at 1:30 p.m. at the TTA Center to discuss the increases.
