The battle for social networking on the web has AOL looking to join the social scene.
The internet company is forking out $850 million for Bebo, the third most popular social networking site, behind MySpace and Facebook.
Company executives say they'll integrate Bebo with AOL’s instant messenger feature, in an effort to make their mark in this growing industry.
Bebo boasts 40 million users, which is twice as many as last year, but mostly in Great Britain. AOL is expected to broaden the site's reach into the United States.
