HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The billion dollar buyout offer between two of the biggest names on the internet is heating up and mobile phones are boldly going where no cell phone has gone before.
Internet icon Yahoo is asking for a better offer. It is under pressure of a three week deadline from Microsoft to accept its $41 billion dollar buyout bid.
Yahoo officials say they don't oppose a deal with Microsoft, but they're going to need a better offer. Over the weekend Microsoft warned Yahoo that if a deal isn't reached by April 26 the software giant will launch a hostile takeover at a much less attractive price.
Since it initially rejected Microsoft’s first bid, Yahoo has explored alliances with Google, News Corps, MySpace.com and Time Warner’s AOL. No alternative to Microsoft’s offer has surfaced, though.
Last week, we told you about 3g iPhones, but 3g will soon be a thing of the past.
We’ve learned Verizon wireless and AT&T will pay billions of dollars for the right to transmit signals over the airwaves that television broadcasters will abandon next year when the analog broadcasts will cease to be.
Both companies are planning to use the new 4g networks for super fast data transmissions. It’ll be 20 times faster than cable internet service.
Of course, consumers probably won't get internet that fast, but they will see a big increase in internet speeds. It means mobile internet will truly become mobile and those days of staring at that tiny screen while it slowly loads should become a distant memory.
