It appears AT&T has finally caught up with other cell phone providers by launching its third generation mobile broadband network. It's also known as 3G technology.
This now allows AT&T users to surf the net on their phones and mobile devices at DSL-like speeds. But don't expect your old phone to go that fast. This service only works if you own a 3G phone. Most of them will have a little 3G icon on the screen. If you're not sure, contact your local AT&T authorized retailer.
Of course the best news about today's announcement is the fact that folks here in our region anxiously awaiting the 3G I-Phone will actually get the high speed service when the phone hits the shelves July 11th.
And speaking of the IPhone release, thanks to the unofficial Apple weblog, we found out the IPhones 2.0 firmware release will hit July 11th -- the same day as the 3G IPhone release.

In 2001, we all welcomed Microsoft XP into the world. Fast forward seven years and we are saying farewell to Microsoft's popular operating system.
The software maker says after today they will no longer ship copies of XP to retailers. That means users will have to buy computers pre-loaded with the newer Vista platform.
Microsoft says it will continue to provide full technical support for the six year old operating system through next year.
