It appears AT&T has finally caught up with other cell phone providers by launching its third generation mobile broadband network. It's also known as 3G technology.

This now allows AT&T users to surf the net on their phones and mobile devices at DSL-like speeds. But don't expect your old phone to go that fast. This service only works if you own a 3G phone. Most of them will have a little 3G icon on the screen. If you're not sure, contact your local AT&T authorized retailer.

Of course the best news about today's announcement is the fact that folks here in our region anxiously awaiting the 3G I-Phone will actually get the high speed service when the phone hits the shelves July 11th.

And speaking of the IPhone release, thanks to the unofficial Apple weblog, we found out the IPhones 2.0 firmware release will hit July 11th -- the same day as the 3G IPhone release.

In 2001, we all welcomed Microsoft XP into the world. Fast forward seven years and we are saying farewell to Microsoft's popular operating system.

The software maker says after today they will no longer ship copies of XP to retailers. That means users will have to buy computers pre-loaded with the newer Vista platform.

Microsoft says it will continue to provide full technical support for the six year old operating system through next year.

Now to the link of the day -- and say you're surfing the web and reading an article you want to continue to read when the website asks you to login or register.

Chances are you already have to remember more passwords than a computer security technician and don't need another one.

Why not just skip the registration thanks to Bugmenot.com.

All you have to do is type in the site you're trying to access. Bug-me-not will then give you a username and password that will let you into the site.

Bug-me-not.com does want to point out that all of the usernames and passwords listed on the site added by users just like you. Most of them are made up using fake details for other bugmenot users to use.

"DSL Like" seems a bit of an understatement. My Verizon DSL I was lucky to get 510 kb down/256 kb UP. On this new AT&T 3G, I can pull speeds at 1.5MB down/1.1MB UP. That's faster than cable around here!
