The slow economy isn't keeping people from seeing movies. They're just going online to get their rentals. Netflix, the online DVD rental company, says it signed up a record 764,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2008. That helped push the company's earnings up seven percent in a time when many companies are reporting losses.
Netflix says some consumers turned to them because of a price hike at Blockbuster.
Netflix offers rental plans ranging from $5 to $17 a month.

If you're thinking about buying an XBox game system, you may want to wait a few weeks. Microsoft might be dropping the price by $50.
The company isn't commenting, but several internet sites have posted pictures of upcoming store advertisements touting the XBox for $299. If the price cut happens, it would make the XBox about $100 cheaper than one of its top rivals, the Playstation 3.

Those of you who leave office at the office, so to speak, may not have to any more.
Microsoft plans to sell its Office programs to consumers on a yearly subscription basis starting in mid-July. The bundle of Word, Excel, Power Point and other applications will sell for $70 a year at 700 Circuit City stores.
Buying the programs outright would cost about $200.
