There were a lot of upset gamers out there recently – at least those using Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. That's because Xbox live was down all day Monday through early Tuesday. In case you don't know -- Xbox Live is the online community where gamers can play against other gamers around the world.

Live will be down for a full 24 hours to prepare for the new Xbox experience. The Xbox experience will be a big change to your 360 dashboard with a whole new look. But don't get too excited. The downtime just allows Microsoft to prepare for the upcoming change later this fall.

----

The Link of the Day is a new Web site that allows users to stream their videos directly from their phone to the web. Check out, for instance, Qik.com. The Web site even allows users to stream videos to friends in Facebook or Twitter, just to name a few sites. The coolest feature of Qik-- those videos you stream go "live" from your phone to the world -- just like a live camcorder to the Web. Users can stream anytime, anywhere just by using their phones.

Qik doesn't work on every phone, so make sure to head to the site to check out before getting your hopes up. Don't forget -- you'll also want to make sure you have a data plan from your cell phone service provider. That's because Qik uses a considerable amount of bandwidth, and that can mean a big jump on your next bill if you don't have a sufficient data plan.

This was pre-planned. I got an email from xbox live saying it was going to be down 2 weeks ahead of time. Everyone else should have to, but you probably deleted it without even looking at it. (No I dont get government assistance. I work 40 hours a week and have 15 college hours. It is my getaway after working and then doing homework.

Some people have hobbies like going hunting; some people have hobbies like watching TV; some people have hobbies of going outside and taking a walk; and then, some people have hobbies like playing video games. I don't think there's anything wrong with people playing video games at all. And yes, Xbox Live is a payed service, you pay to be able to experience the online play that they have to offer, so when the service goes down for 24 hours, people SHOULD be upset! It's the exact same thing as your internet going down, or your phone service going down, or your TV cable going out... it's the SAME THING. When they have these "maintenance" periods, they should reimburse people for that day lost of using their service, just like anyone using their phone, tv, internet, electicity, etc would get. That is my opinion.

David are you dumb? It was a joke Chris said about the goverment, and I agree with him kids get home from School and play video games the rest of the evening. Your probably 300 pounds yourself and got offended by his comment.

David what Chris said was a joke! And who has a couple of hours a day to play video games these days? You must not be very smart to think he was being serious about the Goverment comment.

GOOD!!! Now my husband will talk to me now instead of ppl he can barely hear anyway!!!

Hey ALL CAPS CHRIS, It's not just overweight kids who use the service. There are plenty of us ADULTS who are physically active, yet like to spend an hour or two a day enjoying this pastime. The reason people are upset is that this is a PAY service. We pay for the ability to use their servers. When it goes down for 24 hours, that's money lost on OUR end. As far as the government statement, it just sounds to me like somebody is upset that the government turned them down for assistance.

Posted by: CHRIS on Sep 30, 2008 at 07:44 AM
OL NO!! THE OVER WEIGHT KIDS MIGHT HAVE TO GO OUT AND PLAY NOW! THIS IS AWFUL! I CANT BELIEVE THE GOVERMENT DONT HAVE A BACK UP PLAN FOR THESE TYPE OF DISASTERS.
