Hanging Up on Landlines
For the first time ever, more U.S. households only have cell phones than only landlines.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Call it a high-tech hangup. For the first time ever, the number of U.S. households opting for only cell phones has surpassed those that just have traditional landlines.
In fact, a new study from the CDC says 20% of U.S. homes have cut the landline and are now cell only. That's compared to just 17% of homes that only have a landline.
"It's really not surprising," Verizon Wireless assistant manager Amanda Jones said.
The switch is nothing new for workers at Verizon Wireless. While it's no secret more and more people are using cell phones, it was a bit of a surprise those same people are cutting the cord on their landlines so quickly. A move Verizon Wireless workers blame on the economy.
"More and more people don't want to pay for both a cell phone and a landline," Jones said.
Just another reason folks around the nation are hanging up on an old form of communication.
