HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Millions of Americans are gearing up to get away this holiday weekend. In fact, AAA predicts 32.4 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home this memorial day weekend. That is an increase of 500,000 travelers from 2008.

But, if you've decided to wait until the last minute to book a trip this year you may be in trouble, according to some travel experts.

"Right now, it's whatever is left over," National Inc. President Betty Given says.

Given is staying busy booking last minute trips for folks looking for a quick escape. But she says procrastinators may get a shock.

"So many people think they're going to get a real deal," Given says. "But by the time they pay for airfare at last minute, it would have been better had they booked several months in advance."

Time is no longer on your side if you're looking to get away this weekend. Your best bet at this point is the world wide web. But experts say if you find a deal: click on it! That's because those deals are going fast.

"If you see something that looks like a good deal, jump on it right then," Given says. "Don't keep on searching."

Given also says if you still haven't booked, don't be surprised if you have to settle for whatever is left.

"At the very last minute you can't be picky about where you're staying, where you're going or what type of trip you're going to have," Given says. "Because again, there's not much out there to choose from."

Bottom line: Do your research! With hundreds of travel sites on the web, chances are good there will be some deal that will be just too good to pass up.
