The Link: Google and iPhone News
Some grumbling about the iPhone, but a lot of buzz about Microsoft's new search engine.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Watch out Google. Microsoft is going big.
The company is going all out with a new advertising blitz about its new search engine -- Bing.com.
Microsoft is reportedly spending up to $100 million to get the word out about Bing.com.
To start off the promotion, online video hub, Hulu, presents a fake show billed as a bing-a-thon, where viewers will see an hour long advertisement about the new search engine. And while sitting at the computer for an hour isn't fun, it does pay off. Get this -- as a reward, viewers who watch the sixty minute show will get to view movies on Hulu without commercial interruption.
Commercials for Bing.com are also now airing on network television.

If you were like me, yesterday you were glued to your favorite tech blog anxiously hitting refresh to get the glimpse of the new iPhone 3GS.
Apple showed off its shiny new toy yesterday at its world wide developers conference.
But while the phone wowed people in the crowd, folks on line have started to grumble. The problem -- tethering on the phone.
For those who don't know, tethering is just a way for users to hook up their iPhone to a laptop for an internet connection. Apple did not announce any tethering plans from AT&T at the conference, but AT&T since announced its in the process of releasing a pricing plan.
The rumor is it will cost $70/month for an unlimited plan. Ouch!
Let's just hope it really is a rumor.

Regarding the remedial classes taught at the college level: How can college students who are required to take remedial classes be surprised? I have taught on the high school level for many years, and have watched as students do everything in their power to avoid classes that are considered college prep level. They cruise through high school with little or no effort taking fluff courses or dragging their feet in pseudo-challenging courses. Parents and administrators put pressure on teachers to pass students who brag about how little work they do in a class. Counselors encourage unprepared students to go to college. It’s no surprise that the majority of these non-students are no longer in college when their classmates are ready to graduate.
