An online study shows folks are split when it comes to the proper name for soft drinks.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- What's in a name? A lot, apparently. The website popvssoda.com shows that soft drinks have a very different name depending on where you are in the United States.
Some call it soda, others call it pop and some just simply say coke. According to the website, our region is firmly a "pop" area.
You can check out popvssoda.com for yourself. Just fill out the survey and give your hometown and the beverage-term used the most by people who live in your town.
The website's authors take the information and display it on a map that breaks down the terms by region.
We did a quick poll of our own, and were blown away by the number of responses. More than 2,000 people voted, and in the end, "Pop" received 78% of the votes. "Soda" came in second with 16%, and "Other" came in last with just 4%.
