I just like to say something about the gas price's.I have watched people come on the new's and say the reason for the high price's is the demand and they are afraid of running out of gas and oil? I dont know about other people but I think raising the gas is totally redickuless. It makes people not able to go to work, give's them an attitude, make's working for minimum wage not worth doing.Raising the fuel is not the answer. The diesel fuel is a left over of gas and it dont cost that much to make as of gas.The point is if the price of diesel would go down below around 2:50 a gallion where trucking company's would not have to raise there rate's in return the store's would not have to keep raising price's.Raising the price's just put's more money in the hand's of the owner's of oil well's and they are making way to much now.I go by one gas station and it is 2:95 a gal and go one mile and it is 3:15 a gal.Wrong to treat people that way trying to raise a family.Goverment Rippoff.

Don obviously you have a very hard time understanding the point of what you are trying to say. I am positive that if you passed the GED, you would know how to spell correctly. Comprehension has no t anywhere in it. If you wish to avoid others who insist on calling you names, then my suggestion is stop being a complete and total dunderhead, halfwit, ignoramous, nincompoop, tomfool, simpleton! Oh and an idiot is someone with a mental age below 3 while a moron is someone with a mental age between 7 and 12. Judging by your choice for words, sentence structure, and overall complexity of your posts, I am positive that moron is a very plausible description of you.

Yes, I drive downtown fifth avenue every morning. There is no speed, slow or fast, that will get you through the lights without stopping. The lights used to be synchronized. If you went the speed limit you could complete the trip without a stop. The current situation really decreases fuel economy, as well as increasing brake wear and tear. Is there a reason that this can't be remedied?

I wish they would let our kids say the pledge of allegiance and have prayer back in school. Our country is catering to much to those that weren't born or bred in the U.S. Our country is slowly but surely turning into commies. Slice an dice how ever you want but that is the road were headed down.

I read in the Wayne news that someone stole 1800 lbs of copper from the AEP station on Walker Branch. My first thought was, "Is this possible?" The article stated that the thieves LITERALLY endangered their own lives, as well as those of the employees who showed up for work on Monday. I have a cousin who is a meth-head so addicted, she steals from her own children. What is wrong with people? How can you justify this? I want a new car really badly, but I don't steal to get it. So what if they're addicted and HAVE to have their next hit? I like Jeep Grand Cherokees and want a new one, but I'm not willing to steal. I'm just making do. It's more than an addiction people. It's something inately wrong with them that makes them feel entitled to whatever they want whenever they want it. We say, "Oh, shucks, that's ok. You've got an addiction. You can't give up your drugs. You might get sick." Shame on us. Why haven't we taken a stand? We just continue to give them more excuses.

The snow day issues are getting a little out of hand. Teachers are not babysitters. You decided to have kids, and so did I. When there is a snow day, we already know what we are going to do. We have planned for it. You shouldnt have to get up at 6 in the am and hurry around trying to find someone to watch your kids. Plan ahead. we all know that sooner or later we are gonna have a snow day. It also helps to watch the news the night before to see whats gonna happen. We also have a plan for 2 hour delays...My favorite one. I have a two hour delay too. Now I know what you are thinking (some of you) My boss wont let me do that. Well when I interviewed for my job, I told them my kids come first. No matter what...floods, snow, or just sick. They know this to begin with. Just plan ahead. Other parents that have kids in the same school have the same problems. Find out who they are and take turns with the kids on snow days. Thats any easy one.....

I could not help but get angry when I read the comment on here stating that teachers should show up at normal times on delay days to babysit students whose parents have to be at work on time & are inconvenienced by the delay. To this I say: Are you crazy? Each day, I work extra HOURS at school. Start time is 8:00, but I'm often there at 7:00. Dismissal time is 3:15, but I'm often there until 5:00. On my duty week, I have to arrive at school at 6:45am. I get to leave at 3:45. No, the hours aren't bad. In addition to that, though, I must take home papers to grade, etc. While I love my job, I do take offense to parents who expect more and more out of teachers. What about our safety? Assuming the roads aren't safe enough for students, they are not safe for adults either. Show us some consideration and respect, please. There is now a state mandate that does not allow teachers to send home supply lists. I have to buy tissues, hand sanitizer, etc. Even pencils! Isn't that enough?

you know we watch the news every morning and every evening. we know your faces and we recognize you when you're in our home towns, and thats really nice to see you here. we know when you are sick we know when you are pregnant we even know what child ya had and how you are doing. and that is great. its home town, its family. but when you continuosly report the same thing over and over again with just a little bit of stuff added or you report stuff just because its availably.and you dont consider the feelings of the survivers or there families and friends that tells me you really dont care about any of us you only care about your ratings so i say to whom ever decides what airs on the news, when you check your stats of your ratings there will be 1 less me

I have a question that I would love to see investigated. A Putnam doctor is suspended from practicing medicine for 6 months, but... Putnam General allowed a doctor to use super glue during surgeries and supposedly even have a nurse walk out and refuse to participate during surgies due to this and she gets written up. The doctor is still practicing and was not suspended. What about the doctor (King) who did all the surgeries and has multiple cases pending at Putnam. He moved out of state, changed his name and is still practicing. What happened to his license? Does not appear to be equal justice for all.

I find it amusing that some of you parents spend your time worrying about the school board and find every reason to make excuses. From the way many of you write, you need to go to class with your child. You also should consider putting more faith into education so that your child turns out okay. If you don't feel the roads are safe, use your brain and keep them home. Teachers are not glorified babysitters. They are teachers. Let them do their job effectively and stand behind them. Children have become instant gratification dependent. Quit giving them the world and give them love, attention, and an education. Put your child first and do what is best for him or her. You are the adult. No one at the school or main office is holding a gun to your whining head and saying put your kid on the bus. Common sense is something many people lack. I agree totally with Pat. Margaret can have her special topic discussions but then she wouldn't be highly qualified either. So again, oh well
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Pat on Feb 20, 2008 at 07:57 PM
Dear Margaret, Instead of having teachers report to school to babysit children on two hour delays, why don't parents volunteer and you can be the first. Make sure your special topic discussions are age appropriate and meet the needs of k-5 students. Please make sure breakfast is served for these students that arrive two hours earlier than the rest of the children.

Shannon, I know what you are talking about Putnam County has had alot of days that the roads was bad and if they had school then they should have had a two hour delay. It makes me mad that they take puting our kids on a bus so lightly. I now make my own snow days.If the roads is bad I keep my kids home Iam sorry but I am not going to lose my kids because of a school board who dont know when to call off school and worrie more about makeing up the days than keeping our kids safe

I just read a story in my local paper about a four month old whose parents were on trial for breaking her arm and leg. The Micheal Merrifield trial has been in the news. I can't watch or read alot of this stuff. It hurts my heart too badly. March 24, 2008 will be the one year anniversary of the death of my first child. April 22 would have been his fifth birthday. He would've been starting school in August had the cancer beast not taken him. We struggled for more than a year to keep him with us, making him do things that sickened him in hopes that it would kill his brain tumors. Other people are blessed with these gifts from God and so quickly toss them to the side when we fought so hard and still lost ours. He told me before he died that he wanted to go to Heaven and be with Jesus. I know he is not the only child there. My heart breaks all over every time I hear of one. They deserve to be loved. Jesus will do it in Heaven but they deserve it here too.

what is wrong with the people who run marshall university, when the weather is bad like today, the kids who commute have to take a chance driving, there and driving home again. They can't stay home because, Marshall argues most of the kids have dorms, well not everbody has money for a dorm. and most classes they are only allowed to miss say 4 days in a semester, That would be understandable in nice weather. If they would only watch the weather or notice, that almost every local school was closed and why can't they let the kids know when, they are going to be delayed. my daughter got a e-mail from her teacher 15 min, before class started needless to say, she was already at marshall waiting, she didn't get to check her e-mail till she got home. Now don't get me wrong I not saying to baby them, just have some curtisy and let them know, Marshall claims to treat all students the same and as adults, if thats so why not contact WSAZ and say school is delayed or close.she makes good grades sofar

It must be a boring life if you want to call it that, but I think it stinks for some poor little brainless whimp, to criticize a great news and weather team as WSAZ, to talk about politics all the time, to put down women and children, to stay on the the same web-site and in front of the same TV watching the same channel and to be a spineless whimp to hide behind a key board and type out his frustration against people that he has no other way to strike out at them. Anybody have a ideal who that is? You see him on here a the time.

"JR" I read your comments about the WSAZ forecasters. It seems pretty obvious that you ARE a former WSAZ forecaster because the average viewer would never write such a detailed comment. Please find something better to do with your time and move on. You must not have much going on if all you have to do is sit around and try to put down your former co-workers. Please, get a life.

how can you say this man was murdered? you also say that the windows were tinted but they did not look tinted to me. this man was a criminal that ignored the law, ignored his home confinement order and terrorized innocent victims. i am a mother and i hope and pray that my son never gets involved with people like this that could introduce him into a life of drugs and crime. i feel that the cops are doing the best they can to protect citizens of our great state but the courts set these people back onto the streets before rehabilitated. its a sad situation, a mother lost her child but i feel that she lost him long before the cops shot him. my heart goes out to his family and loved ones and to the cops that were doing their job.

Hey Shannon, just a suggestion; When my children were in public schools and I felt the roads were too bad, I called my own snow days. When I sent the excuse the next day, that is exactly what I wrote on the excuse. I would then call in sick to work and we would all have a stay at home day! Not very parental sounding, but now that they are grown, I wish I had used the snow as an excuse to stay home more often. All parents should try banding together and calling their own snow days and see if this makes a difference in how soon they call them, or if they call them.

Whenever there's a weather map--of any sort--there should be an easy-to-read Key to that map visible on screen. This business of multi-colored maps w/ no legend or explanation to easily decipher the map is simply inexcusable. Last week you were flashing these rainbow maps and not giving ANY clear verbal explanations as to their meaning--obviously it reflected "bad weather" but was it ice? Snow? Sleet? Rain? Put the legend on-screen please or simply don't bother with the maps at all. Someone also needs to inform the weather forecasters that the current temps are often broadcast (w/ the time) on the bottom of the screen. They damage their credibility when they report one current temp...that's several degrees different than the ACTUAL current temp (at least for major population areas)that's being displayed at the bottom of the screen. Maps w/ legends please-- And let's decide on one temp per location to broadcast. Thanks.

The young man was murdered in Huntington by police. They could not have seen anything in the back seat of a car with tinted windows. Every time someone is killed by police they always say"the suspect was threatning", and always get away with it. The cops become judge, jury, and exacutioner. This man was not charged nor indited, nor tired for any robbery...but he is dead now....beware...you could be next or a loved one!

I pray to God that nothing happens to any children on the bus ride to school in Kanawha County. They always wait to the last minute to have a 2 hour delay.( if they have one) Many mornings I have took my children to school(my on delay) because I thought the roads were to bad. I don't know who makes this decision for Kanawha County but they need to look at the roads out in Sissonville. I would not let my child on a bus if I had the least bit of doubt. The only time when Kanawha County was the first to call for a 2 hour delay was when WSAZ had Charleston on the News for bad roads and several wrecks on the interstate. I guess they were obligated to have one then. We need to keep our kids safe. Also Maybe they need to add in some more snow days to the school calendar to use for this purpose.
