The Yell has turned in to a forum for low class, ignorant, obviously uneducated, closed minded people who have a cruel and crude veiw on life. Why can't people just live in peace?

Apparently Rex isnt a doctor. Or he would know that some overweight people do have gland problems. Like I said before, My cousin DIED!!!! It had nothing to do with control. He was being tube fed when he died...And continued to gain weight at a remarkeable rate. So before you start talking about something you know nothing about, do a little research!!!!! As for the Handicap tags on some peoples cars, did you ever think it was because they are driving their disabled parents around that has to be in a wheelchair everywhere she goes. Or a grandfather that cant breath because of his service to this country...Not everyone abuse these tags.

Don't worry Don, as per Doc's orders I am not allowed to drive....you're safe. And as for walking, it almost killed me....after my heart surgery I came home and started my walking like I was directed to do and it did more damage to my heart, that is why I have the ICD and my "Handicapped" tag.

This isn't blowing off steam but Westmoreland Baptist Church is having VBS from July 27- August 1(6:00pm-8:30pm). The theme is Outrigger Island.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Rob on Jun 26, 2008 at 05:26 PM
Did you ever stop to think that maybe the handicap problem is on the inside? 15 heart attacks, open heart surgery, an ICD. Not allowed to do anything more than walking. Just because a person doesn't look handicapped doesn't mean they aren't.

L-e-t m-e g-e-t t-h-i-s r-i-g-h-t Jerry, you have left a comment regarding a holler hoot mentality which basically is understood to mean the typical barefoot, ignorant, toothless, illiterate people. West Virginia is growing in places and losing in others. The town in which I grew up is growing once again because of the timber and coal mining industry. Putnam County has expanded immensely in the last 5 years. Is West Virginia at the top of many lists? Probably not. Your critique of my intelligence is absurd and unfounded. My four degrees came from one of the most educationally sound and renowned colleges around. Where did West Virginia fail me? The lack of importance that the state and counties put on the salary ranges of teachers is the downfall to this state. The attempt at maintaining teachers with the best credentials by use of a salary that qualifies many for food stamps is the root of many delays. WV's road systems and mountainous areas are the other side

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: paula on Jun 26, 2008 at 03:55 PM
why are there so many dead animals left on the road I thought the DOH was suppose to take care of that problem.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THERE HAVE BEEN COMMENTS ABOUT "handicap" TAGS> MY OPINION THRERE IS NOT ONE VALID REASON FOR ANYONE TO HAVE ONE!! NEXT TIME YOU SEE A CAR PULL INTO A SPOT>>>>WATCH AND WONDER >>>HUH???????

i know people who act crazy to get disabilty the WHOLE FAMILY as a matter of fact

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Rob on Jun 26, 2008 at 03:20 PM
But Lou, obesity can be second-hand....children follow what their parents do, that is one of the number 1 reasons there are abused spouses, they see mommy and daddy do and grow up thinking it's okay. Alcohol also can mean instant death, people leave bars and restaurants all the time and kill innocent families in head-on collisions. I am not a smoker but I get so sick and tired of smokers getting all the crap and then seeing people charged with DUI causing death getting probation or a year or so in prison, murder is murder. And then there is cirrohsis or the liver, alcohol poisoning and it goes on and on......but i won't, I'm tired of typing.

I fully agree with Sue! I am sooooo sick of seeing "disabled" people do things that "disabled" people should not be able to do, if you can party you are not disabled! Attempting to qualify for disability is simply lack of desire to work! Why doesn’t someone check-up on these people frequently who are reaping the benefits of everyone who does work? There are some who need the money and are incapable of working but there are so many more who just do not want to work!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Darla on Jun 26, 2008 at 02:32 PM
Has anyone noticed the volume of dead animals along I64 from Huntington to Charleston? I counted at least five today, how disgusting! It just helps our state's "image" as everyone is describing it. On another note, I am happy to see the inmates working in the orange jump suits, what a great idea! This work allows them to be outside off their behinds and actually contributing to society!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Jerry on Jun 26, 2008 at 01:33 PM
Oh, Hoot...far be it from me to presume that all WVians are uneducated (although, they do rank DEAD LAST according the U.S. Census Bureau for residents 25 with a Bachelor's Degree). Granted, you glazed over my piece and avoided the salient point rather well, indicating to me that maybe those "four degrees" were in subjects other than reading comprehension. To reiterate the last half of my previous entry, for a state that allegedly has so much to offer, why does WV maintain it's position at the bottom of the national ladder? Do you think it's just a fluke? Has everyone else got it all wrong, and WV is really a magical diamond in the rough? Or is it that you're in denial? And perhaps you misunderstood the implication of "holler mentality." Generally, hollers are very tightly knit, often comprised of multiple generations of a single family. This lends itself to what most call "Good ol' boy" politics. In WV, that has become a statewide norm. Without remedy, WV will continue sinking

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is appauling to me that you would use the word "fatty". I am not fat. Most of these overweight ppl have a health problem. Either its their glands, or they cant help themselves. Why would you say such hurtful things about them. My cousin died a few years ago because of a gland problem. While in the hospital he was on a strict diet...and yet he still gained weight. Before you go slinging names around, stop and think. Some of these people cant help it. That was just plain rude and distasteful. Show a little class for crying out loud!!!!!!!!!

Sue your soo right

I have to comment on the smoking ban mentioned on last night's news. Everyone equates it with obesity; however, if I am obese, I hurt no one by myself. There is no second-hand obesity. Smoke, on the other hand, hurts anyone who is withing oxygen sharing distance. I think the old saying, "your right to swing your fist ends at my face" applies to smoking in public. You right to smoke ends at my lungs.

Posted by: HOLLER HOOT on Jun 25, 2008 at 09:59 PM
When stereotyping an entire state in which one is allegedly well traveled, one should consider the geologic makeup of the state. In assuming that all or most of the state's residents are stupid or maintain a "holler" mentality, Jerry has shown his complete total inability to judge people. If one goes to the "holler" or the "creek", one will see some who exhibit the described traits but at the same location will find many who are extremely intelligent and well spoken. Jerry obviously forgets about those people in a failed attempt to describe a community in which he obviously hates. From an uneducated holler hoot,(i have four degrees) and left the holler... Jerry, the door opens the opposite of when you opened it and the fastest way out for you is west on 64... NO ONE IS BEGGING YOU TO STAY...

True dumb pole question. Please let viewers come up with the questions.

Posted by: Jerry on Jun 25, 2008 at 04:36 PM
I live in Huntington currently. I have lived in Barboursville, Milton, and Culloden during my time here, and have visited all but three counties in the state. I've conducted business in Huntington, Charleston, Morgantown, Wheeling, and Beckley, and feel that I have a pretty solid impression of the state in general. After nearly 15 years of residency, I don't think I'm simply a victim of nationwide stereotyping. There are some wonderful people here, but even they are largely entrenched in the backward "good ol' boy" system that sprouted due to the exploitation during the coal mining boom. This "holler" mentality simply never subsided. That is why WV doesn't grow. That is why Huntington is going down the tubes at a record pace. While nearby metro areas have exploded (ie. Lexington), WV's metros stagnate. Truly great states grow substantially. WV is in denial and until the idiots around here wake up, you'll be in the bottom 10% of all states for decades to come.

Jane, you are sooooo right!!! I moved here a few years ago from a neighboring state and I am appalled at the disabilities and welfare in this state. I think in the past if you broke a nail, you could get on disability but now with Brickstreet, it is harder. You go, Brickstreet!!! Also, do you ever notice 99 percent of people with the disabled hangtags are FAT!!!!!!! I can't wait to move back "home"!!

I can not believe that the poll for today is such a horrible question. How could any one think that a terrorist attack could benefit from such an attack. Come WSAZ stop playing with the emotions of the voters. Just report on the stories and stop going with the stupid things that the jokers running for office are saying. Remember most political candidate will say anything to get elected. But usually never follow up the the campaign promises.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: what is wrong with you on Jun 25, 2008 at 11:22 AM
the poll question for today is absolutely tasteless. No one party should "benefit" from a terrorist attack! If a terrorist attack occurs, our country will suffer as a whole. NO POLITICAL AGENDA should be at the forefront in a national emergency. You should be ashamed of yourselves for posting such a pathetically distasteful question.

My family and I are very upset over Sundays lineup. Dr. Charles Stanley in very much missed. Is he coming back on? If not, why? A lot of shutins depend on his message each week. I have always trusted WSAZ to do the right thing. And, in this day and time WE ALL need the word of God.

I think Jane had better move around the country a bit more before complaining about this Beautiful area being a dump. I have lived in seven states—16 cities/communities—26 residences and plan to remain In WV. I’ve heard people complain about unemployment, education, and taxation, etc. You will find something to complain about no matter where you hang your hat. Attitude and willingness to change your surroundings makes the difference.

The Charleston PD is useless if you are calling a suspicious person dealing drugs, instead of them telling the DEA and letting them handle it, they approach the suspect and even tell them the person who called, how ackward is that, especially if you live in that neighborhood where they live. I think the Police Dept. must be getting in on the deals, Hey Danny Jones, is this what our user fee is going for? I say get Sgt. Peoples back, he was the only one that had the nerve to do his job correctly.

where ever you move there will be ingorant uneducated people. I dont know why you think they only exsist in West Virginia I love my state with all its faults and ingorance I dont have to be part of the ignorance and neither do you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Mark on Jun 23, 2008 at 10:15 PM
I totally agree with the lady who said West Virginia is full of ignorant people. Actually, you would need to censor my true sentiments toward most of the people around here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Vic on Jun 23, 2008 at 07:14 PM
Where do you and Jane live, anyway? Some backwoods "holler"? I don't know whom you're meeting to give you these low stereotypical opinions of West Virginians, but the ones I know are intelligent, educated, hard-working, and caring folks who are proud of this state. I imagine most of them would agree with me when I say, "Hit the road, Jacks. Don't you come back no more."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Jerry on Jun 23, 2008 at 06:09 PM
Jane's approach may be tactless, but the her message has merit. For a state with plenty of natural beauty, WV is handicapped by it's population. The people seem to be a disturbing mix of North and South: sour and stubborn like a Yankee, dull and lazy like a redneck. Unlike Jane, I'll be out of here within the month. I think a mutual "good riddance" is in order.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: close the bridge on Jun 23, 2008 at 05:17 PM
would you rather them close the bridge for a year in order to fix it or would you rather be a part of history and end up in the Kanawha river
