In your story, From Kenya to Kentucky and home again, the focus was on the hardships of a man getting the $900 for a plane ticket. So his neighbors began selling their things to pay for his trip. (The catch, that he returned after graduating from Vanderbilt University medical school and built a clinic in his home village of Lwala.) If the $900 was such a feat, then who paid for his schooling? Let me guess..."WE" did? Please tell me that our tax money did not go to some program to help Kenya when kids in Kentucky or WV would love this same opportunity but could never afford it. And what was the benefit to us? I'm tired of taking care of everyone else. I understand that charity begins at home, but should not end there. But at least lets get started in the right place.

I find it annoying to set here and listen to all the MZTV commercials when there are several thousand of us in the tri-state area that are victims of cable companies refusal of running cable to we rural residents that cannot have a tower either but in stead are the “Forgotten Ones” on satellite dish only. At least you could say your working on this for we dish owners, but no ….you maintain only the annoying commercials of programs that we cannot receive of MZTV. You and the other local stations all have another channel, Example: WSAZ channel 3 / 7317. Why can you NOT use the 7317 channel for MYZTV so that when you preempt WSAZ news at noon, for example, so we can watch the noon news rather than getting stuck watching Tennis, or any other programs we dish owners would like to watch! The annoyance is your ignoring we dish owners, watching the MZTV commercials of somethign we CANNOT GET!

Since the non-smokers (I am a non smoker) doesn't want smokers to be in the same vicinity of them because of the so-called health risks I think people who drive regular family type vehicles should demand that motorcycles, coal trucks, 18 wheel rigs and such should have to have their designated highways....or just quit driving. I know that sounds ridiculous but that's just about how stupid all you whiny people sound. This country has forgotten what the words "freedom" and "equality" mean.

I hope your story about the young man who swam across the river wasn't seen by any of our politicians. With our democracy being eroded every time our Congress, state legislatures, or city governments convene, you have provided them with another reason for another law. Those folks in West Virginia can only hope a special session isn't required!

CJ-I see what you mean. The question is "Who is going to look after" America? Politics does and will repeat itself. We do "need" change and the American people needs to be able to adjust in difficult/turbulent times. Isnt that what being an American is all about? It doesnt matter what color a person is, his or hers culture, belief, etc. We need to get it together with or without our elected officials, so to speak. So, some of us need to quit crying and do what "we" as Americans can and will do to keep our country free and respected a lot better than before. We control our own destiny. Wake up before its too late and come together as a proud nation should!!! Thanks

To CJ, you are correct and when you asked "Who's watching over America?" The answer is NOONE! You are very right, the real issues of the country are never addressed by politicians; everyone just wants to blame someone else. Local government wants to blame state government, they ant to blame federal, federal blames the rest of the world and so on and so on. Someone just needs to take initiative and make a change! Presidents, governors of all states, and mayors of all cities do have the power to make a difference but very few use that power they have been elected to use.

This presidential race is one for the history books. We have McCain supporting International Trade(has us hooked on foreign oil & shutting down business). Then we have Obama asking Americans to volunteer (take a look @ a hospital log and see how many tired, stressed out patients there are daily).. Do they truly think that Americans can continue to give? Does Politicians see how many people are losing their homes? or how much it cost just to drive down a patched up American highway? Both canidates should focus on the quality of life in America and what our president is going to do to rebuild our Nation! When are the elected officials going to realize their Politics do not work for the people? Who's watching over America?

Given the recent hiring of Jerry Weaver and the obvious political cronyism displayed by those we voted into office, I am ashamed to be a Lincoln Countian.

Most people on welfare are not drug users. Some people on welfare are drug users.

Re: State Workers - Drug Tests. I think this is a waste of tax payers money. Unless the person is in a key safety position or drives a State owned vehicle, testing should not be necessary. If on the job a person exemplifies issues w/drugs, alcohol, poor attendance or job performance, then disciplinary action should be taken including immediate subjection to testing. Random testing of all State employees is a waste of tax money. If a person can't do their job or aren't doing a good job, then they need to be disciplined or fired. I've worked for the State before & they have a lot of good people who really do WORK & then there are those who merely show up & collect a check.

Re: Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco tests for welfare recipients; Alcohol & tobacco are legal substances so unless they are outlawed, the gov't will have no control over their use or abuse unless a crime (such as DUI) is committed & that person is subject to drug & alcohol screenings. I don't believe that just because you are a recipient, you should be required to test. For recipients caught w/illegal drugs, I believe they should be barred from receiving any State or Fed assistance for themselves. They should continue to get some sort of assistance for their kids, & an agency monitor their living conditions, health & school attendance. I know the gov't can only do so much, but we've got to get control of the abusers & those who would neglect their kids & misuse funds intended for clothing, shelter & nutrition on luxuries for themselves. Some people have no clue about priorities. Being poor is sufferage enough - why make your kids suffer more due to your own selfishness?

OK, What has happened to the arson charges that were pending in Mason County, on the 911 worker. WSAZ was all over this issue for a week and we were waiting on action from the prosecuting attorneys office, now hush . I guess its time for wsaz to ask some more questions, or it will be swept, not under the carpet but out the door.

Ruthann, I agree with you 100% on the welfare checks! Recipients of any government aid should be mandated to take and pass drug, alcohol, and tobacco tests. If you do not have enough money for food, water, and shelter you should not be able to spend the governments’ money on these things! It is just horrible to see children who are in need of government help but they are dirty and their clothes looking like they have been around since their parents were children but they do have a flat screen tv with extended cable and mom gets a pack of cigarettes to go along with her six pack of beer everyday! Just a note, you do sound somewhat suspicious asking why state workers have to take drug tests! lol

This show is so rude and one minded. During you show you speak of everyplace within the listening area except Lincoln County. For example, today you were speaking of fireworks and such for the 4th of July and Hamlin was never mentioned. The only time Lincoln County gets and attention is when something bad happens. You need to relize we are apart of the new area and start including us in the new and stop acting like we arent here! We have things going on in our county as well stop leaving us out of the news and making us unknown.

I want to know why the West Virginian workers have to pass drug tests to work in this state, but our state goverment will hand out welfare checks to people without making them pass a drug test???? I don't think it's FAIR!

Where does the money goes after the police confiscate it after drug busts? I thought it was to go towards assisting the police departments operating costs?
