I am rather disappointed that WSAZ didn't run a small segment on the free Celiac Disease screening that took place yesterday at Cabell Huntington hospital. Do you even know what it is? Probably not. It is more common than diabetes, and I've seen plenty of coverage on that. I would expect the most popular newschannel in the tri-state area to at least acknowldge this event. If more information was avaliable to people, then maybe it wouldn't be so hard to live in this area with this disease. More knowledge equals more resources. The Herald- Dispatch had a flyer in their Sunday newspaper. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't have known about it. Thanks for keeping our area uninformed.

ARI read the story that guy was a woman who was having a a sex change to be a man and I will agree with you on that one he/she is a freak and those people should NOT have kids

Hey Ari, Learn to spell!

If it was her cats poop then it needed put in her yard. Just because someone likes and has pets doesn't mean that everyone else does. I can't stand how people just let cats and dogs roam around. More people should do what your neighbor did.

your one of them huh old woman!?!?!?I guess it's non of my buisness either that "guy" who had a kid, what a freak!

This comment isn't on a news story. Just my observation this morning. My neighbor went outside today around 7-7:30 to sneak and shovel cat "poop" from his wife's flower bed. No big deal right...what upset me was he carried it in the shovel from is yard across the alley passing his garbage cans and threw it in the yard of a women who is disabled. (Yes, they could have been her cats that did the business) I've never seen anyone do something so mean when just cleaning up the cat poop and putting it in a garbage bag would have done the job. So much for trying to enjoy the beautiful morning by reading outside.

No sunscreen! Secondhand smoke! Blue haze! All of it kind of makes me hungry just thinking about it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Agree on Jul 11, 2008 at 01:41 PM
Yeah all of these people worried about second-hand smoke but are walking outside with no sunscreen. Duh

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Wow on Jul 11, 2008 at 01:29 PM
It's no wonder people think we are an ignorant state. I just looked at the survey today, and the biggest majority (40.2%) don't wear sunscreen. You folks are just asking for skin cancer. Maybe you need to visit the radiation center in Kanawha City and see what people look like when they are missing ears, noses etc to skin cancer.

sure thing old woman, if its non of my buisness then tell them to stop complaining to eveyone about it. It's not fair to the child that when they get older they have to worry about if there mother/father is going to die becasue there so old before they get to enjoy their kids growing up. people are so lazy and eveything now the younger parents cant properly take care of their kids, let alone if they are older.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: old woman on Jul 10, 2008 at 04:51 PM
well if the "old women" have the money to do so then its NONE of your business and things can be wrong with a child at any age you have a baby.I personally would not want to have a child after age 40 but its none of mine or your business if they do and I can gurantee you these women arent on WELFARE! ASKING THE STATE TO PAY FOR THEIR BABIES!

I believe driving 55 to save gas is a great idea, but it should never be a mandate. It would be a law rarely if ever obeyed or even enforced. However,I shouldn't be forced to drive 70 to use the interstate system either.Let's be free to choose.I choose to save gas and drive 55-60.I promise to stay in the slow lane!

i believe that this should be a wakeup call to all!!! Barack Obama is being criticized by Jesse Jackson... Obama isn't for all the people either. He is for his followers. At this point it wouldn't surprise me to learn of some cult following.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Sophie on Jul 10, 2008 at 01:03 PM
Concerning the Rev. Jesse Jackson's blooper comment: He finally made public his ultimate agenda. He does not care about all peoples, just some. Barack Obama has made statements chastising certain cultures in reference to being a man & taking care of responsibilities. Obama is simply telling it as it is. We live in a fatherless society where women & men are equally to blame for their irresponsibility. Wasn't Jackson the cheif supporter of the Rainbow Coalition? He certainly showed his true colors with his comment. I hope Obama distances himself from this man and is cautious of him running with sissors.

This is a little extreme; all I did was ask if there is someone who works for the state of West Virginia to pick up these dead animals along I-64. I had recently been noticing more than usual on my drive to work and just wondered in anyone else noticed the same thing. All the while considering that it makes our state easily fall into the stereotype it is so well know for. Someone then told me that I should pick them up myself and I merely explained why I felt that was a ridiculous comment. I am finished with this somewhat meaningless story and hope that all of you are as well. I love my state dead animals and all, I just truly hope that others traveling through will feel the same.

I hope the 55 speed limit is never brought back into play. If so the highways would be unsafe to drive! If you are traveling 55 MPH it would add hrs onto your trip. Not to mention the increased traffic. Our highway systems are @ full capacity. America needs to update them but of course we all know that America is broke,In debt, and spoiled. If US economy & citizens are so bad who is footing the bill to rebuild and protect the rest of the world? While we get excuses @ home. Give us a break! The Government needs to lower taxes and reduce the gas prices so Americans can work to send our money out of the country. Who's looking out for America?

They would have taken the kitten home and found it a good home. Not everyone is as cold hearted as the p'ville police. the girl and her family runs an animal rescue. do you know how expensive that is? it's a matter of morals, that's all. if you don't care that don't mean i don't. shame on proctorville police and mayor.i'm not going to vote for him and i hope everyone sees why now.

It's a sad day in America when the Mayor and police won't help with anything. The Kitten that died in the storm drain is more proof of that. We, the people pay them to help in whatever situation arises. The p'ville police sit in the car all day long doing nothing except pulling people over for no reason. They had a responsibility to help Ms. Berry. Instead they did nothing but make excuses. Something is wrong about this picture. A citizen goes to the police for help and they said no. That's a slap in face to me, and should be to all of us. Just to do nothing and let a life, kitten or not go. Proctorville shouldn't be handing the death penality out to anyone. God forbid you have a wreck in that town, They'll say they don't have the funds to help you. Stay out of P'ville all the do is give out tickets to line those pockets of there's.

original roane county, I am so proud of you coming to assist this poor defensless pregnant woman who is suffering from sickness caused from dead animal smells. HELLO she is pregnant everything is going to make her sick and obviously her hormones are ravaging her brain because she is publicly still whining about dead animals on the road. This is West Virginia, (wild and wonderful) kinda goes with the territory. You could always move to Gilmer County, I personally knew a man that picked up dead animals there.

If I had misstreded that poor kitten I would have been arrested for curlty to a anamial. I am from Ohio but I am ashamed to admit it they they handled that poor little kitten. If that treated that poor kitten like that I wonder how they handle their pets and kids??? I would gladly have taken the poor kitten I have had 19 cats and kittens and the were well fed and cared for and got homes for them . as close as the woods the could have turned it loose in the woods and it would have surived better than know getting help. these are GOD little ones I hope the people who diden't help I hop they dreem about that poor kitten they could have helped. have people froget how to care ????

Everyone is worried about getting the converter boxs befor Fed well I would like to know how a person wanting cable in my bed room and tv room and comcast cable will not install it. I have had them here 5 times and they still say they won't run me any more cable and I only have cable in one room and my internet. It dosen't make good sence. Has anyone else having this problem? I want cable so I won't have to use those boxs when I live right in the middle of town. I use to live in the country and I was able to have cable where ever I wanted. I am in my late 50's I shoulden't to be forced to get something every one has cable where I want it.

Okay you bleeding heart kitten fans, get over this. Do you think these people were going to take the cat home with them after the rescue? Were you going to adopt it? The poor kitten would have ended up in a shelter and killed another day. Don't you think that the cops knew this?

Its funny that gas prices only started going up when Bush went into office. We are told and told that Supply and Demand has all to do with it, thats just bull.. why are the american people letting the government pull blinders over our eyes, its time for America to stand up and fight, other countries have riots in the street over stuff that we just take on a day to day basis. one or few speak to few, but just like in the movie a bugs life, many thousands speak action.. look how many pople marched with Dr. Martin Luther King. Why have we forgotten what we as millions and millions can do. What we need to do is fight for action and stop leting them keep punching away at us.

This is for this week and the story on putting cops in Huntington on foot patrol!________ OOOOOOO cops on foot patrol!! What a concept! WOW with the cost of gas and the economy as it is...who knows "maybe' they might even go back to taking back the streets on horse back! If I remember correctly Huntington 'does' or did have a Mounted Patrol Dept....and guess who started it? Kim Wolfe! I am just soooooooo glad we hired someone from out of state to come to Huntington with such a novel approach to greatly reducing the street crime, that's taken over Huntington and the entire County! I wonder what's next? Cops actually talking to us regular folk, and building up a face to face, one on one relationship with the community!I don't think my heart can take it! Next thing we know OZ will show up and make things all better again by blessing our fearless leaders with not only with hearts, brains AND minds...but might throw in a little common sense in the mix! Lions and Tigers and Bears! O MY

Comment on the kitten stuck in storm drain in Proctorville Ohio. That police officer was an insensitive PIG! People need to respect all forms of life. That includes kittens. If he was stuck in a storm drain would he like to hear people say there wasn't enough money in the budget to pull him out and save his life. How difficult would it have been for smeone to direct traffic around the drain so someone could open it and save the kitten? I hope God is a Giant Cat.

I think if the President has the courage to send Americans to war. Then he should have the same amout of courage to change the speed limit to 55 like Ronald Reagan did. All I do is listen to people complain about gas prices but no one wants to slow down to get extra MPG. Like Bin Laudin said "When crude oil gets to 144.00 a barrel it will break the USA". Is he right? Do we as parents, brothers and sisters of loved one's over seas fighting have the courage to drive 55?

With all the problems this State has, you are gonna argue over dead animals?? There are murders, rapes, homelessness, starving children and this is what you fight about. All the lady was doing, was making a statement...Good luck with the baby!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Animal Advocate on Jul 8, 2008 at 07:14 PM
Your story on July 8 about the cat in the drain was devastating. It is the responsiblity of the PPD to help its citizens animals or otherwise. The officer or mayor could have called in animal control for assistance to save the cat. The police are there for assistance do some assisting by getting out of your car for a change and do something. I know that money is tight everywhere and they need the money from the speeding tickets, but alot of the time the police cars sit and watch traffic. A cat might not be high on your priority list but the citizen that asked for help is paying your salary and/or keeping you in office. Dont give excuses, give assistance

Poor you on Jul 7, 2008 at 11:41 PM, (a.k.a. Richard Cranium) stop picking on Darla. The state owns these animals so they should be picking them up.

DARLA"">>>>>>>>>>>>>I AM WITH YOU!!!when are you due??? ALL THE BEST!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Darla on Jul 7, 2008 at 01:54 PM
Wes, I will tell you two reasons that I will not pick up the numerous dead animals from the side of I-64. The first reason is I am fairly certain that there is someone being paid by this great state that is getting paid for this job and I do not. The second reason is that I am pregnant and just seeing and smelling them on my way to work everyday is enough to generate my extreme nausea that most women who are pregnant or already had a child know of. Thank you truly for your ingenious suggestion!
