Since when is America a Democracy? If you read your history and the Constitution, you will find that America is a Republic

I don't understand how a tax decrease on poor, working poor and Middle Class isn't socialism but a tax increase on the wealthy is. I suppose because it affects the rich, we have to give it the label of redistributing the wealth, but again, it isn't redistribution as long as the rich are taking from the poor. Capital gains have a 15% tax rate, far less than nearly everyone right now. Capital gains are unearned income - money made by shuffling around other people's money. Some say because it's riskier, they deserve better tax rate. However, there is obviously NO RISK of losing money on capital gains because of the bailouts, but the world will collapse if we don't. How is moving money around on a computer worth more than someone building a house or running a cash register? We've been socialist for quite some time, but now that the poor may get back some of their money, all of the sudden this has gotta stop? Bull****! The poor DO pay tax! FICA FACT - poor pay more than the rich as %income

Before raising the user fee to an extra dollar, why not make sure all employed in the city are paying their fee. The company I am employed with is not taking it out on all employees and when you call to report it, no one seems to know who is in charge of that area at city hall.

All I see on here is mostly self centered know it alls,You all know there is a lot of things that "WE ARE ALL FACING",but how can you complain about the president, when he has been in office for only 2 months and you think he can straighten out 8 years of the former president who caused this mess,in a short time, its not logical,or possible. I dont agree on every thing he does but that does not mean I am going to bash him because he hasnt changed the economy it takes time.If he was in there a year and nothings changing or seeing a change then I would complain. My mother before she died use to have a saying, " I see people running their mouth but doing nothing to change it". Not all people on public assistance is using it as an excuse but as a fall back when money is tight, but you all think were all bad, the governemnt allows drug addicts and alcholics to have ssi so who is to blame for that?

I would like to know how a man can sexually abuse his own 4 year old twins, is then sentenced to home confinement, without ever spending a day in jail. He walked around able to prey on any other child until he was sentenced 9 months later. It was never in the news, it was all very hush hush. He lives in Barboursville, WV and works in Hurricane where his employers/friends don't even let their clients he works with know the truth.

Okay people heres how I see it. 1. Road kill is delicious. Some of the best deer meat I ever had came from some poor bambi that got ran down by a coal truck hauling strip mine coal. Add a pinch of pepper, a dash of salt and yum yum yum. 2. Waterboarding is not torture. In fact these people have been cuddled up to goats and sheep and camels somewhere in a cave in Afganistan they could use a little water. Mr. CIA man, please, when you get the water hose fired up, toss in some tide and clorox too. They need it. 3. IF you can read your bible, didnt Jesus say his kingdom was not of this world? And if he was a socialist, commie, long hair that never took a bath, why would he want a country where they always live 200 years behind the rest of the world? Did you all see where Castro was bragging the other day about Cuba getting color TVs? What a paradise! Hey comrade Fidel, thats a great edsel you are driving around in, love that chrome. I think that car used to be an extra from the batcave.

Please move to a nation like Saudi Arabia where they share all of your beliefs, except, of course, the name thing but hey, life is a compromise. You can take part in stoning gays and women who have been raped. Please take everyone like you along-as the Lily Allen song says, we hate what you do, we hate your whole crew so please don't stay in touch.....Google the lyrics and find out what I really want to say.

All hail the messiah, Obama, Obama! Our hero speaks, the stock market dives! 3000 points lost, that is people's 401k's, their retirement money, going down the drain, since election day. But, rest easy folks, the messiah has not forgotten you! He knows you are out there, he feels your pain! Yes we can! It doesn't matter that Obama says nothing and does nothing, he says it really good and he really cares. And by the way, the reason we listen to Rush is because we need balance. When I want the liberal viewpoint, I tune in to NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, CNBC, etc...you guys are right, Rush's monopoly of the airwaves must end. At least Rush is man enough to challenge Obama to a debate, but Obama is too much of a coward to accept. He does not have the intellect to debate Rush. Get him off the tele prompter and it is "uuh, uuuuh, duuuh, er, duuuh, uuuuh, uuummm," but that is just being thoughtful, right? So great to have a president that can speak the English language.

How much do you people who want to drug test everyone who recieves government assistance want to pay for these tests? Do you realize that it would cost millions a year to do so? And why would you want to invade the privacy of these people? I understand that there will always be those who will abuse the system if they can. The people who really deserve to recieve benefits have a hard enough time getting them to begin with. I have a job and have worked for 38 years paying into the system. If something happened to disable me the last thing I would want is to have to pee in a bottle to get my check!

Here's an idea, not new but worth exploring. Put those on welfare to work...Cleaning city streets, paving, there is enough work for all of them. If their kids are not in school during work hours some of them can watch the youngest while others work around the city...You are paid when you work. There is no shame in working for a living.

I have one question for you people that keep saying that Obama is gonna turn our country into a socialist or marxist state. How many of you can define socialism or marxisim? WITHOUT looking it up on the internet. Because if you already knew the definition of them you would know that would be impossible short of a Coup d'état (often simply called a coup, the sudden unconstitutional overthrow of a government by a typically small part of the state establishment – usually the military – to replace the branch of the stricken government, either with another civil government or with a military government)I thought I would save you all the trouble of looking that one up.

every one deserves a hand up but not a hand out.most or a lot of people have been so called poor, but when you get right down to the final annalyse moral people manage their money, they wouldnt parade their children, dirty and snotty nosed in front of a t.v.camera to get someone to feel sorry for them.they have no pride, its easier to beg than get up off their dead ends to take care of their own children and most of these people are down into that behavior now into 3and 4 generation.its time to break this cycle by taking these children away from people like that.after all if they cant or wont put their own children first why do we tx payers have to help keep up their destructive behavior while short changing our own children?people who wont help themselves cant be changed for the better.

if it wasnt for the poor and needy then a lot of people would be out of work. i think all state workers and public officials should be drug tested at least once a month. teachers spend as much time with our children as we do, would you want them teaching your child while using drugs? public officials making decisions about our state while drunk or using drugs, it happens everyday. funny thing about drug testing, the people know about it two wks. in advance. i say leave the poor and needy people alone they have enough to deal with.

To suggest that Jesus was a socialist in the mold of depraved monsters like Castro, Guevara, Stalin, etc...is absurd. I remember this from last fall. Only those illiterate in the scriptures would suggest that. Do you mean to suggest Christ would have presided over places like North Korea, Cuba, Vietnam, China, etc...and NOT changed the government? These countries persecute Christians and do not allow the bible to be read or owned. Socialism concentrates the power into an elite group by confiscating the money people earn and redistributing it as they see fit. This is a sin. Charity is to be from the heart, not from an overbearing, overreaching, thieving government that robs from people who work hard. The bible presents a strong work ethic as a virtue; socialism rewards lazy, slovenly people who know they will get the same wage no matter what they do. Be a Berean, read the scriptures. The Democrat party obviously does not know the scriptures or they wouldn't say false things like that.

I think the ideal of random drug testing for people on public assistance is an excellent ideal, that way you find the root of the problem and you can get rid of the whole tree. If you find a parent who is getting help from the state is taking drugs then take away their food stamps and their checks then that way you can put them in jail and hopefully in the process you can take away the only means of keeping their family alive and that way you can kill all of them out and that will take care of the problem. Afterall that is what they are after is to kill out anyone who would dare to be poor or at least anyone who would even think about expecting any help from our system. I would say I hope the ones sponsoring this would never get to the point where they would need some kind of help but honestly I do hope they do.

I think many Americans are less versed on history and more informed by political rhetoric. Historically, governments that provide more (big government) allow more personal freedoms (like Europe). Governments traditionally considered "small" actually control more personal freedoms (e.g. Roman Empire, Bush Administration). So many locals disagree with President Obama for religous views (abortion, etc) and damn him for what they perceive as socialism. They should read their Bible--Jesus was a socialist, and politically quite liberal--not morally, but politically. Don't take radio and tv seriously--Think for yourself.

Please come up with some thoughts of your own. Please stop riding the Big Earl/Keith Express. If Rush makes you blush and get all tingly inside, more power to you! I know the feeling, knowing that there is no longer a Republican in the White House I am all tingly too! You know people I have been giving some more thought to this slander against American troops, that Newsweek did. I have also noticed several references on this site that say 911 was an inside job, that Bush snuck into NYC that day and pushed the plunger that brought down the towers, etc..this is dumber than a box of rocks. If you want to talk about torture and what we should do once we close that resort down in Cuba, where those bums get 3 squares a day, a bath for probably the first time in their adult lives, and all the chicken they can eat, I say we put 'em all in a room and force them to watch Rosie Odonnell reruns nonstop 24 hours a day. Talk about true confession time...wouldnt need a water hose then for sure. Anyway this genius Rosie went on TV to tell everyone that fire could not melt steel, then that tanker truck exploded under that bridge out in CA and lo and behold the steel melted! Instead of Rosie the riviter we get Rosie the structural engineer! Geez!

Seems that so many have decided not to read their history lessons, or have any clue what a capitalist economy needs during times of recession. The Great Depression was made far worse because Hoover pandered to the conservatives of the time and balanced the budget. Without government spending, things will far worse. Rush only makes sense to people who can't think and who haven't bothered to educate themselves. Someone should sew his mouth shut; I'm guessing carbon emissions and global warming would both improve without his hot air bull#$&t.

The longest running war in American history is the war on poverty. LBJ determined to eliminate poverty through a new deal like tax and spend program beginning in 1964-65. You see the results everywhere. As far as a solution, yes we do have one, one that has been tried and worked several times. Study the depression of 1920. Yes, 1920. You may not have heard of it, because it was ended rather quickly by an agressive program of tax cuts that spurred growth, sparked investment and hiring, raised the tax rate on the wealthy and lowered it on the poor. More revenue comes into the treasury after tax cuts than after tax increases. Fact is fact, experience and history prove it. The only answer liberals have is raise taxes higher, which takes productive money out of circulation and chokes the economy. If you listen closely to Obama he does not follow the stock market nor is he doing anything to alleviate the problems facing us. He profits from them. R. Emmanuel said crises are useful. To whom?

Jeanne is correct in saying the "trickle down" theory doesn't work, it didn't under Reagan either. In 87 we had a huge market crash in October, now the worst one since. You keep acting like the tax cuts for the wealthiest works, well it doesn't and it hasn't because they are too greedy. You find corporate CEOs getting multimillion dollar bonuses yearly hiring lobbyist to encourage politicians not to increase the minimum wage and begging for their own tax breaks. News flash guys if middle American workers keep taking concessions they can't buy, if they can't buy there comes the recession because they are the bulk of the people. What's hard to understand about that? I pay a certain percent of tax on every dollar I make, all I'm asking is they do the same. What's socialistic about that?

I have been in the workforce for 20 years. I feel I should be able to afford to survive - food, a car, and a roof over my head. Full-time minimum wage is only about $15,000/year, can't even afford to go to the doctor when you're sick. In order to get paid a sick day, you have to go to the doctor to PROVE you're sick. A working person receiving a tax break is not a handout. You people seem to forget that there are also FICA and MEDICARE taxes withheld in additional to payroll taxes. A bigger percentage of my income is taken for taxes than it is for the wealthy because you must also consider what I must pay in order to survive - sales tax, property tax, car insurance, gas tax, etc. There are many, many taxes that come out of the income of the poor. So don't give me that I/they don't pay taxes. Keep listening to Rush, he needs the money. Rush = Messiah. Rewriting history of the New Deal and Great Depression is the newest task you've been ordered to carry out by Rush. Orwell had it right.

With that being said, it is the coal company CEO's who need to dip into their billion dollar pockets to pay for the increased tax. I'm sure it won't happen that way though and with that point Coal you are right. No, I haven't "unplugged" yet. I have looked into purchasing one of those windmills that earl seems to hate. Hopefully, in the next few years, we can do that, that way the electric company can pay me back for generating electricity for them. The next thing I would like to address is that I'm tired of people throwing their trash out their car windows. You should be ashamed. I would like to point out one car I saw last night who through their trash out the passenger side window-green cavalier, OH license plate NAB 9161. Then we would pay off our debt, buy homes, cars, investments for the future. Use some common sense and stop sending all the money to the already rich. Let the working man prosper for once. It is stupid to offer the suffering of poor people during the depression as proof the new deal worked. Why do you think these people were eating govt. cheese for ten years? The rest of the world had recovered long before we did. Yes poverty is horrible but what Roosevelt and his advisors did prolonged the suffering. Roosevelt had the same underconsumptionist theories that you two are talking about, so he launched a war on business people, the very ones who could hire and turn things around. Foolishness! When you scare business into pulling back, who creates the jobs? Look at the peoples republic of Cale-for-neia. What a mess! Look at New York City. Mayor Bloomberg finally realized that taxing the producers to the point of them leaving will wreck that town. 40,000 taxpayers in NYC carry the other 8 million. Tax cuts do work, study the 1980s under Reagan, who inherited a mess ten times worse (from Jimmy Clinton) than Obama constantly whines about and Reagan reversed it within a year.

Whether or not Amity Schlaes, author of The Forgotten Man, or Burton Folsom, author of New Deal or Raw Deal are Rush fans I don't know. But it is great to get folks talking about the topic of what an utter and complete failure the New Deal was in ending the Great Depression which raged on for 8 years under FDR with nearly 20% unemployment in 1940. Sounds successful, doesn't it? But I suppose it all depends upon how one defines success. Yes, I have read many oral histories of the Great Depression, but this does not change the fact that FDR had no clue what he was doing. Sounds eerily familiar...redistribution of income, i.e., taking it from people who work for it and earn it, and giving it to people who don't, is a marxist idea. Example: Income tax refunds to people who don't pay income taxes. If you don't pay, how do you get a refund? Yes, unfortunately, Mr. Bush and many RINOs strayed from the conservative path, to their and the country's detriment, here's hoping to get back in 2010.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Louise on Mar 3, 2009 at 08:42 PM
I don't think you'll find many people (other than Limbaugh devotees) that believe the New Deal didn't work. I'll recommend Keith reads a book based on true accounts by people alive during the Great Depression. Hard Times by Studs Terkel. Verbatim oral histories from people who were there. You are going to have to present more evidence that the words Socialism and Marxism are consistent with Obama's policies. Raising taxes does not equal socialism. Helping citizens afford health care is not socialism. There are far better examples or Marxism and Socialism currently in our society. How about the VA system? How about mandatory car insurance? How about a draft? How about CIA destroying torture tapes? Road blocks? Drug testing? and legal memos giving the Bush admin. justification for ignoring the constitution? Don't tell me my govt is looking out for me by wiretapping my phone and illegally searching my home! That's what Fidel Castro does/did!

The last several times I have been to Walmart, the lines are horrible. Lines backed up to the Jewelry counter and they will only have 2 regulars lines open and 2 self check outs open. While I stood in the non moving line, I watched 5 people leave their packed cart and walk out. You also see workers walking all over the store but not one single one of them can help you find what you need, much less get something off the top shelf for you. Did they layoff people, make cuts or something?

I did not hear Cons.'s/Repub's calling Bush a Socialist when he enacted his own redistribution of wealth policies. If lowering taxes on one income bracket is socialism, and raising taxes on another is also socialism, then exactly how can any tax policy not be defined as socialism? You can't win an argument that's illogical. It's like flippin' a quarter & tails I win, heads you lose. We need a re-re-distribution of wealth. The rich got to keep my money for a while & gambled it all away in the stock market & investment banks. Now Obama's policies are going to give me back what was rightfully mine to begin with. At no time in history has the disparity between rich and poor grown at such a rate as it has in the past eight years. Tax cuts to the wealthy do not increase jobs. Just look around you. Where are all these jobs that the tax cuts created over the past 8 years? If the poor and middle class have money to spend, everyone wins! I can't buy your product if I don't have any $$.

It makes no sense to me that the chips I pay $2 for two weeks out of the month raise to $2.88 when the checks fly. I am with the person who skips Walmart and shops at dollar general or Kroger. Sorry, I should have written "Reverse Robin Hood." The point is, history has taught us what life under socialism is like. Yes, both parties are guilty, but that does not make right, preferable, or a good system of government. Rush is righ, liberalism is a cruel philosophy that has resulted in untold suffering wherever it has gained a foothold. I would love to send it all back to Washington, we would be much better off with much smaller government. Check out New Deal or Raw Deal the new book about our closest encounter thus far with Marxist/socialist policies. See what it got us? 8 years of the GREAT Depression. After 8 long years of FDRs New Deal Socialism, unemployment stood at 20%. Why would anyone have tolerated this nonsense for 8 years? Democrats do tax the rich, which then pass along to consumers, it they are a business, or they shelter their money, stop taking risks, expanding, hiring, spending, etc..because they are punished for trying. Sounds like a real formula for success.

Well, maybe I dont think too much of Newsweek. Werent they the ones who published the phony story about pages of the Koran being flushed down the toilet by our great American servicepersonnel, sparking riots and no doubt resulting in the deaths of innocent civilians and American military folks? Great magazine, Newsweek is. Nothing like responsible journalism, huh? Besides, there is nothing wrong with roadkill. Some of the best deer I have ever eaten came off the side of the road, when some poor Bambi got wiped out by an 18 wheeler coal truck that just rolled off a strip mine hauling black gold to market. It does take all the fun out of it though, from a hunter's perspective. Anyway, those tree huggers with that giant banner that read "SAY NO TO COAL" were at a global warming rally-I am not really surprised, birds of a feather flock together as they say-but this global warming rally was in the middle of a snow storm! And these geniuses are the bright people among us? Give me a break.

One of the biggest myths in the history of the country is the Robin Hood doctrine advanced below. (Republicans rob the poor and give to the rich) I won't and don't try to defend Republicans, because RINOs are no better than liberal democrats. So I will write about conservatism. The philosophy is so simple, yet missed by so many. Poor people do not hire people, pay most of the taxes, start most of the businesses, etc..people with wealth drive the economy. The best way to get wealth to the most people is to cut the tax rates of the wealthy. Then they can keep more of their money, reinvest it in the economy, create jobs, expand the tax base, etc... Historically, look back to the early 1920s, the early 1980s, and again the earlyl 2000s to see examples of tax cutting bringing back an economy wrecked by liberal policies. Anyone remember the misery index of Jimmy Carter? Stagflation, anyone? Just the facts, please. Obama is a full blown marxist intent on confiscation and redistribution.

I'm an insurance agent and they are not LIABLE for your car. Everything is an act of God when it comes to insurance. Your auto insurance is responsible for it. Just like if your neighbors car port or siding or shingles landed on your car during that storm. He would not be liable for it either. How do you know it wasn't bolted down properly? You do realize that the wind gusts were around 74 mph right? I had customers that had carports that were bolted into concrete end up in their neighbors yard up against their house or fence. Guess who's responsible if they have damage to the house? Not my customers. The neighbors homeowners coverage would pay for it. Can't blame Wal-mart as much as you'd like to, that's not the way insurance works. Just be glad it's under your comprehensive coverage. Try for a lawsuit, you'll only be out your own money.

Socialism is around the corner??? Hmmm. It seems to me that its been here for a long time. Administration after administration has redistributed the wealth. Republicans take from the poor and give to the rich while the Democrats tax the rich. President Eisenhower (what a Republican should be) initiated the interstate system. This sounds like socialism to me. So, why not take a hammer and chip away @ I-64. There is socialism all around us, so you all best get busy! Turn in your social security check, ssi check, food stamps, etc. Ever been on workers comp?? Disability?? Unemployment?? Sounds like socialism to me. You best send it ALL back to Washington! It would be great for all of you expert know it alls to go back in time and live under Stalin and Marx. You have no idea! This is America where the red, white and blue will never fade! Period.

first of all im totally against abortion, except to save the life of the mother. i mentioned earlier that i prevented a mother from getting an abortion. last tues. a very good friend of mine, 18 yrs. old came to me and asked me what i thought about the idea of her getting an abortion, she was 5 wks. pregnant. she said she knew it was wrong and didnt want to have it done, but it would ruin her life to have a child. she was on the pill, but ended up pregnant anyway. she wanted my opinion. i wanted her to keep the child, but like a coward i told her it was her decision, and noone had the right to decide for her, it was her choice. i told her i would not judge her for any choice she made, i would still be her friend. the next day she had the procedure done, that night i talked with her, she seemed all right but in a little pain. she said everything was fine. the next morning she tried to take her life! thank god they found her in time. should i have done more to stop her? was i wrong?

it is always so good to hear someone so informed.facts are to often ignored and just name calling put in as fact.people are so unhappy and most of them seem to b obama voters.i see that obama has confirmed another cabinet member.i think and i admit im not sure but is this the same post as clintons jossyln elders.if it is u will remember her doctrine on sex.obama has said that he wants to start with kindergarden to indoctrinate about alternative sexual behavior.i seem to remember the age 3years of age as being the starting age of conpulsory starting age.is she the person that wants to shut down free speech?there is so many negative people he is involved with i cant keep up.thank u for being so well informed.i respect r.l.also his agenda is to save america from socialism, markism ,to keep a true democracy and educate people how freedom works.

Acting big & bad? What are you talking about? Nothing has backfired on me. I have not attacked any hardworking miners. Growing up & living in KY, WV, & now Ohio, I do understand the heritage of the area. The people of the appalachia of been treated like crap for over a hundred years. I have also watched the air quality get worse in just the past ten years. Whoever was the one who responded to me below: We all need to be open to change, including the people of our tri-state area. I do have a life, including working a full time job, going to school full time, and raising my children with my husband. Simply ignoring the problem is not the answer. If I have made at least one person more aware of the situation, I have helped in some way. There are many jobs to be had by helping to improving our air quality. I never said shut down the coal mines. Once again, you're changing my words around. Check out the New Source Review.

Dear joe--I don't make 55,000.00 a year let alone get that much of a raise. How can you justify that? We state workers barely get by and then you raise the starting salaries for new people and your tenured workers still qualify for food stamp benefits? New workers are within a couple of hundred dollars of what we make and we are supposed to work harder , mentor them, and take care of an ever rising work load thanks to your leadership causing layoffs and hardships for the elderly. Thank you mr. govenor for making so many proud that you got a raise for yhour extra load of work.

Ilk??? LOL Randy. I have never heard anyone called that before. Did you learn that one from scrabble? Someone got lucky in that game, perhaps?.... I thought Randy had a mistype, and was trying to say Elk. I looked it up, and yes it is a word. I gotta use it in a sentence. There is no one here but me and WSAZ, so I will share my sentence with you fellerzzzzz! Okay here goes.. "My ilk's trade is construction." That was fun, I can't wait until I surprise my friends, with my new word. "Who's on the the phone Jane?" "Well I'll be, it is your Ilk from Arkansas!" LOVE IT! LOVE IT!

Wal Mart... The one on Route 60 Huntington, There is nothing there at night,in the grocery isles. They had two roasts to choose from, about the size of a hand and they had a price tag of over $11.00. Soda, the kind we drink... zero. In every isle, there was shelves that were bare. This happens everytime I am in there, passed 7:00pm. Does your Wal Mart seem as if locust ate the place, past 7:00pm?

Anyone who would shop at Wal-Mart is a lemming. I stopped several years ago. Terrible service. I go to DG, K-mart, FD, Kroger, for various needs. They do not care about their employees/customers. Sam Walton was a kind and caring businessman. His heirs and their ilk apparently didnt get the message.............

Speaking of Mother Earth, Father Time, and cousing dirt; I was watching Shawn Hannity just a little while ago and what did I see? A tree hugger, lunatic PETA, nut case squirrel feeding protest with a bunch of long hair hippies that looked like they hadnt seen a shower or a bathtub in quite some time. I figure they had just came from their protest against US policy in Vietnam or something like that. And-not surprisingly at all to Big Earl, they were parading around with a big ole banner, looked like it was a hundred feet across and about 10 feet high in big block black letters, it said "Stop Coal." I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so. These people apparently do not like to have lights, refrigerators, TVs, etc...they certainly are not friends of indoor plumbing and bathing facilities. No doubt these are good friends with Nancy, Harry and Barry; look out people they are coming for your electricity, your grill, and your jobs. These people cannot have real jobs like the rest of us

I'd get me a good attorney and sue them for a new car, legal fees, and inconvenience that you have suffered by not having your car. If that doesn't work, then you could probably get twice as much for during them for the back injury you suffered helping those men get the thing off your car!!! (if ya know what I mean).

Well, once again theifs have taken from our kids here in south point, ohio. As most of you know, the south point band booster treasurer was arrested for stealing $3,400 from the band booster. Money that the band students raised for competitions, new instrumenets, trip to nationals, and maybe even new uniforms. These kids worked hard raising the money only for Sheila to steal it. Read the article in the IRonton Tribune from Sundays paper. The band will not get this money back. I think that greed blocked her vision and she does NOT CARE about the children's feelings that she hurt. She will probably just get a slap on the wrist and i think it is wrong, she should have to pay the money back and then serve time in prison. then when she gets out i think she should have to pick up trash for the rest of her life. Don't worry band students, us parents love you all and support you go South Point Band of Gold!!!! Things will work out.

You try to act all bad and tough, but its backfired on you. You make some good points, but you don't understand the history and backgounds that Wv and KY comes from. They need to be stricter on some things, but some of your solutions aren't the answer. We all need to be more conscience of what we do, but destroying the welfare of miners and others isn't right. You have to remember that these hard workin men and women have done this and it's passed along from generation to generation. I take my hat off to the ones who work hard and risk their lives on a daily bases to provide for their family. Why don't you move to California and see what you can do about the smog.Leave the tri-state alone for doing what they have done for lifetimes.Get a life and butt-out of the hard working ones that earn an HONEST living.

The Governor just got a raise of $55,000 a year. Does it not concern anyone that in a State that is percieved nation wide as having a crooked government that this may reinforce those negative perceptions. Furthermore, we suffer from the perception that we are dirt poor rednecks, and I think the fact that some state workers make so little that one or two dependants qualify them for foodstamps and/or welfare probably reinforces the idea that we are impoverished hillbillies. Come on people, $55,000 a year? Teachers, State Troopers, State Hospital Workers, Social Workers and most of the other workers that do the actual work of keeping this State running do not make $55,000 yearly after 20 years of service. Why should the Governor get it after only four years on the job?

My question is simply... Since our economy is basically in a depression at this point, why are the prices of everything still up and rising? Would it not make more sense to lower the prices back to what they were three months ago or six months ago? People are going to buy more if they can afford to do it. We worry about the obesity rate, well guess what.. It is cheaper to eat at Taco Bell than it is to buy the ingredients to make it at home. I can feed my family of six for $13 at Taco Bell. Cheese is $3.00 a bag, Lettuce is almost $2 a head, Hamburger is $2.69 a lb, tomatoes are about $1.50 a lb, taco shells are $2.50 a box, soft shells are $2.50 a package, sour cream is $1.50 a container. I can buy six mc chicken sandwhiches for $6.00 but can't buy six pieces of boneless chicken breast for that. The buns alone are over $2.00. The math pushes many to obesity. If you can't get food stamps and need to pinch pennies, what are you going to do. I don't like feeling helpless.

In response to Union Jack, I think Rush is great, he is a hero of mine. Rush, Sean, Ann, etc...I saw Rush at the CPAC conference over the weekend and it sure made me miss Reagan. IF only we had someone with real power, a politician of stature, that would take Rush's ideas and run with them. True conservatism always carries the day when it is used, that is why liberals always deceive the voters and run as conservatives and change once they get into office. Clinton did it, Obama did it, they all have to because very few will vote for such bad ideas as liberals have. Rush is right. Liberalism is one of the most cruel, compassionless, enslaving belief systems in the world. Look at the untold damage they have done to our country, from Appalachia and the so called war on poverty, which has never been won and we are still "fighting" to the current massacre of people's retirement in the market. Obama is destroying the market. Look at it today, down another 300. Obama speaks, market drops.

I saw Rush Limbaugh on Fox News the other day giving a speech, he can really give a stemwinder! Personally I dont care what kind of pills he was taking when he hurt his back, I love it when I hear somebody really giving it to the PETA crowd, the tree huggers, etc...I love those funny songs on his show and the updates, especially the time he got Al Gore to sing about global warming to the tune of Johnny Cash song Ring of Fire. Hilarious!! He reminds me of old give em he** Harry Truman, he was from Missouri too. One thing about it, old Rush has sure got Obama's goat, and Obama doesnt have a goat to spare-he ought to send one to his brother George who lives in a mud hut in Kenya on a ten dollar a year income. That goat would do him a lot of good. Milk, cheese, etc...or what about his aunt, living illegally in Boston, seems like Obama has a lot of odd relatives in the family tree, being from Africa, Kansas and Hawaii all at the same time. President of the world i guess you could say?

Readers should check out a new book called New Deal or Raw Deal by Author Burton Folsom. All you have to do is substitute BHO for FDR in a few passages and you understand where we are at economically. It is a great read and very instructive of the Great Depression, what caused it, what prolonged it, etc...and one is left to ponder why we are doing today the very things that were done then that prolonged the misery so long.

I was shopping at Walmart when the windstorm of two weeks ago hit. One of the cart corrals, which was not bolted down properly, totally encased my car. It took 4 men to get it loose and off my car. I gave a report to Wal-Mart and called my insurance. My car is totalled and Wal-Mart calls it an "Act of God" and won't pay for it. Would it had been an "Act of God" if I had been killed? And to top it off, they send me a letter, saying they value me as a customer! Where is the mercy, the justice, Walmart has taken over America and we can't do anything about it! Think again before you shop Wal-Mart!

Giving money to residents of states for mining of natural resources: Why do Alaskans receive residual checks from oil companies for the oil that is pumped from the ground, but WVA residents receive nothing from coal companies who are doing the same thing - mining resources from the ground? The Alaskan government also receives money from oil companies that is not shared with Alaskan residents. Why do coal companies only have to pay a very small portion to the state? I believe the natural resource of coal is owned by residents of WVA and should be a resource for which only the state sets a price. Where are WVA's residual checks for coal taken from WVA mountains?

After finding out that my GM vehicle needs repairs again, I started to think about MY economy & the nation's too. Once again, GM wants the gov. to give them more $$ to survive. Once again GM says they may have to lay off more workers. See a pattern here!!!! A chain reaction starts. These companies and CEO's (banks too) always threaten job loss if they don't get more $$. Then they restucture according to gov rules and lay off more ppl during the process. When are ALL ppl in this country going to wake up and start holding these corporate "bosses" legally responsible (as they already are according to job description) & start pushing some laws instead of $$ at these jerks? These large corporations still bleed $$ because they don't change the way they practice business. Also commonly known as "excessive greed". I'm not talking about something that happens in a movie either. This is real folks!! Large corporations are holding taxpayers & jobs hostage to keep corporate comfort going.

Well, has anyone ever stopped to think about the term "mother earth?" Geez..I know who my mother is, and she is not a tree, a rock, a river, a hill, etc...nor have I ever been confused. On Mothers Day I don't invite a hurricane, (its totally natural) out to dinner. On Sunday I don't have a nice dinner cooked for me by a tornado or an earthquake; I have never taken flowers to an erupting volcano. Point is, "Mother Nature," in all her natural glory, is deadly and vicious. And the same goes for most of "her" creatures: ever try to hug up to a mountain lion? Make friends with a nice coopperhead, or maybe a timber rattler? All you greenies, remember that guy that tried to be buddies with the grizzly bear, and what he got for his trouble? (And no I am not talking about the great Grizzly Adams;)a person needs look no further than that woman who was cuddling up to that stupid monkey. What happened to her when Bonzo when ape on her neighbor? Here Bonzo...nice monkey...want a banana...aaaarrrgh!

I do not know why sex offenders are allowed to ever run free again after being covicted. It seems time that our children are endangered to save someone's rights. They shouldn't have rights. They should lose their rights when convicted. Once a pedifile, always a pedifile. They cannot be changed, and they will strike again. I'm sure the judges that let them go wouldn't want them around their children, so why should we have to have them around ours!! I think it should be an automatic death penalty with no 2nd chances. Why should more children have to to through it?

With all the unemployment we are having, I cannot understand why those jobs are not being filled with local people. I know several people who really need a job desparately, and are not able to find one. Why are the jobs going to people who are not from here, and our locals are struggling to put food on our tables. I'm sure this is not the only area having this issue.
