Posted by: Sarai When are you going to update the "Where are they now" segment?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Robin Not every WSAZ viewer is a tree-hugging animal rights activist. There was nothing wrong with the story about the polar bear hunt in Alaska. Some of us hunters...in my case, a hunters wife, would love to have the chance to get a prize like that!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Randy About the polar bear, I see no difference between this story and any other hunting story. Animals are killed for trophy or bragging rights and no one raises a stink, why now. It's a trophy he paid dearly for, congratulations.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: CB Personally I like the weekend segment with Dave Lavender about all the stuff going on around the area. As for the appearance, I may be mistaken, but he is not a WSAZ employee he is a news reporter for a local newspaper. Some people will complain about anything. Keep up the good work....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Anonymous John...have you ever heard of a thing called involuntary manslaughter?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Sandy I cannot believe that they showed the shot of the little girl telling someone she had seen one of the men that is wanted by the police in Huntington.... what happens now if they come after her for saying she has seen them???? I may be wrong, but I think that was not such a smart thing to do.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Lavonne John, it does make you wonder 'bout Dave. WSAZ- Can you see? I've also noticed a few slips, etc..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Anonymous In response to CJ our local dollar tree store has some of the counterfeit colgate toothpaste on it's shelves right now. Which just goes to show, word doesn't spread quickly and discount stores who buy from oversea wholesalers are those most likely to have the potentially counterfeit products such as toothpaste. Go check it out for yourself, check your local Dollar Tree you'll find Colgate that isn't made by Colgate and not approved by the FDA

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: John The segment hosted by Dave Lavender leaves much to be desired. If we in Huntington are to rise above the stereotypes that follow us, WSAZ could help that cause in this case by: 1.) Improving Mr. Lavender's appearance...maybe a WSAZ polo shirt and neat slacks. He looks like he spent the night in Harris Riverfront Park! 2.) His grammar is really bad....I counted at least a half-dozen instances today! Some of his words are mumbled and some run together. If WSAZ is going to air this informative segment, the reporter should represent the best Huntington has to offer. Clean him up (get rid of the beard), get him some neat clothes and tighten up his grammar......present Huntington and the station in the best light possible!!! I'm a lifelong resident and my comments are meant in the best spirit possible.

Posted by: Chloe We have a smoking ban in Ohio. We also have a son with asthma so we had to really watch where we went out to eat. If they didn't have the smoking and nonsmoking sections really separated, we couldn't go there. Now that every restaurant is nonsmoking, we go out alot more. My brother, who is a smoker, goes with us also. He just waits until dinner is over to light one up. Outside or in his car.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Anonymous Why hasn't this made your site yet? When you first broke this story it was the top online story of the week and most commented. No follow up?? Thompson avoids jail Woman pulled empty gun at school meeting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Anonymous and what about this news story WSAZ, when first reported it was the most commented and viewed story for a week or more...and yet no follow up: Thompson avoids jail Woman pulled empty gun at school meeting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Anonymous Why wasn't this news story on WSAZ? Woman burned by acid found in car Jar triggers HazMat response By KENNETH HART - The Independent ASHLAND — A mysterious jar containing a chemical that burned an Ashland woman when she removed the lid touched off a full-scale hazardous materials response by local agencies Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters wearing protective suits and breathing gear removed the jar from the front porch of the home of Mary Swords, located in the 700 block of Bath Avenue, next to Dawson Pool. A field test performed with a device known as an infrared spectrometer revealed that the liquid was a solution of 97 percent sulfuric acid, Ashland Fire Chief David Sloan said. That's a pretty big news story to let slip thru the cracks. I was shocked to read about it while at Krogers today. Come on WSAZ.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: john I have watched WSAZ for 30 years. I could not believe you aired a story about a person who killed a magnificent creature for FUN. This has to be a new low. Contrary to your story, these animals are in jeopardy and every "God loving" person needs to work to save these animals. They are ot for the the rich to kill and be happy about the kill.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: amanda To Mark: I do agree with you. However, how would you feel if restaurants wouldnt allow nonsmokers in?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Mark Resturants complaining that smoking bans will hurt their business are mistaken. If smoking is banned from all of them, are smokers just going to not eat out? These threats from smokers are idle ones, and they know it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Jeff I like WSAZ'S New coverage. Tell the facts and try to get things righ. On the coverage in the viewing area,it takes a big event to get anything from meigs county to be covered. It seems like thing around here are not important around Kanawha and Cable counties.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: al I feel that all the people that work in kanawha county should be aloud to vote on the raise of the one dollor street tax speaking for myself I say no more taxes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: john I don't know what kind of trouble the guy has been in. But I don't feel that the poor decision made by officer Poling should be blamed on this guy. He should not be held responsible for his death. It would be different if they were fighting and he accidentally killed him by striking him or pushing him under water causing death. It is a very unfortunate thing that has happened to the officer and to his family. I am truly sorry for them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: john I don't have a problem with people smoking in bars because I don't go there. As far as resturants, I can't see where they've lost any business from the non-smokers not coming in anymore. Even if you quit coming, there will be more non-smokers coming in now because the can eat without choking to death. Some people are truly allergic to this smoke and before they couldn't even go out to eat with family and friends.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: melissa i agree with amanda what is the next step in ashland with the smoking ban.i think that this has gone to extremes.the resturants will feel the pain from this and so will the bars. i for one will not go to a dine in resturant if i can not smoke.i think that too many people are just tring to act that they can rule our lives. If i can't smoke i will not go in.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: CJ We should all become more diligent in requiring labeling for the manufacturer of food products rather than the distributor. Having made a recent inquiry to the FDA regarding diethylene glycol (the sweetening agent for radiator fluid) added to toothpaste coming from China, they replied with wanting to know where did I get my info. I learned about the toothpaste on CNN one morning and immediately "Googled" the info. There I learned that China has added this to toothpaste being shipped to other countries, and people have died. Next, I learned that the United States imports toothpaste from China. Next, I learned that although my Colgate toothpaste has distributed by and lists New York, this may not be where it was manufactured. I checked my label on my toothpaste and it does not list diethylene glycol, but the point is, if we continue to use imported products which are slipping through the FDA and no standards are met, then we could all be sitting ducks watching our own demise because we placed our trust in our government that standards were being met. We should bring our manufacturing jobs back to the states, put the American farmers back to work, and have products produced by American workers. Perhaps then our FDA would be able to perform a more accurate assessment of what is being supplied to my family and yours. There seems to be quite a few problems with food imports and China manufacturing. Just Google this and find out for yourself. It is quite troubling.

Posted by: Sue To Julie: I don't think there is any news coverage of bridge jumping suicides. There is an unspoken no-no on that.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Sharon City council passed a "new" ordinance that all dilapited, burned out, and abandoned homes be boarded up. According to the Unsafe Housing Committee there are over 200 on a list already and 80 that WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN STARTED THE END OF APRIL. Has anyone seen a bulldozer out lately? If they are going to send out notices to the homeowners; who will be there to pick-up the notices? especially if there are no forwarding addresses! Then the fire department will do it and who will pay them? STIFF FINES THAT WILL NEVER BE PAID OR SENTENCING THAT WILL NEVER OCCUR. WHAT A JOKE!!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Hadji Julie-you are absolutely right!!! Everywhere throughout the country most newscasts are the 1st in breaking news.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: amanda What is up with the yell? I posted a comment yesterday (6/26/07) around noon and it still hasn't been put up. It was in regards to the smoking bans.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: robin after all the talk about the user fee in charleston appeared on wsaz and all the comments to and about danny jones abouthow we never see the user fee being used for what is was suppose to be used for but my question is why allof a sudden this week is the city streets being paved? danny dont think your pulling 1 on me

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Julie I think WSAZ should stop advertising themselves as the first in breaking news. There have been numerous times I've watched your program or gotten on your website to read about an accident in the Tri-State area and you have nothing on it. This has happened again this morning. Last night there were rescue vehicles from Russell, KY and Ironton, OH combing the Ohio River for a female who allegedly jumped off the Russell bridge. Don't you guys have a police blotter?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Hadji Seems like Marshall U. got it's way again huh? When will our elected officials learn not to let their associations or whatever w/MU impact their commitment to the city? The Mayor, sad to say, was the only one who "really, truely" to stand up to MU, his alma mater. He stood up for the city. Well, the so-called City Council is still afraid, as always. MU knew that to start the project without proper planning would bamboozle the city into a "chess game". Remember the next City Council elections!!! SAD DAY FOR POOR HUNTINGTON...bet folks in Charleston are shaking their heads.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Eddie I don't understand why some areas have more coverage than others. Just like Spring Valley. We had two wrecks in the last two months. One which was major and another not so bad. How come there was no coverage on those wrecks? If there was a wreck in downtown, you'd cover it. Don't get me wrong, I love WSAZ, but you all could cover a wider area.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Amanda This comment concerns all of the debates about all of the smoking bans everywhere but especially in Ashland. When the government made smoking legal, along with that came certain rights. Little by little they are taking these rights away from smokers. The next thing you know, it will be illegal to smoke in your car. Then what? They will decide it is illegal to smoke in your home? As for smoking bans in bars, that is just plain stupid. If you don't won't to work in an environment with second hand smoke, find somewhere else to work. If governments and cities hate smoking so much, why don't they open up state funded rehabs for smokers like they do for other addictive drugs? I, as a smoker, feel discriminated against just about everywhere I go. It makes you feel like your a crackhead sneaking around to smoke a cigarette. I can understand in enclosed public places, but out in the open air or in a privately owned nightclub, come on! If you don't want to breath my second hand smoke, fine. But I don't want to hear all your self-righteous BS either.
