A Yankee Doodle Downer
“I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy, a Yankee Doodle Do or Die…a Real Live Nephew of my Uncle Sam, Born on the 4th of July”.
I surmise my favorite patriotic tune will have to be played in the rain on Friday as I expect an all day damp, dreary and drippy pattern on Independence Day. If I add the alliteration grey, gloomy and grimy… you should get the picture, we are in for a Yankee Doodle Downer.
That said, our in house super computer does suggest a break in the rain in time for Fireworks activities at night. I am skeptical, but sure hope the rain does undergo a lull.
The culprit for the rain is a slow moving front that will stall across the region on Friday and thru Saturday. Any hour or so break to hazy sun on Saturday and Sunday would act to incite the humid air leftover, so a shower and downpour in a thunderstorm seems a good bet both days.
Local high water is possible this 3 day period as indications are we are in for a 1”-3” aggregate rainfall thru Sunday.
I ask you to update the forecast with Marina and Josh on Friday as summer rain forecasts are the most difficult and so many parades, picnics and pyrotechnics are planned. Let’s hope the rains are more spotty and of less duration that I expect.
