WSAZ - Weather

FIRST WARNING FORECAST

The first part of the day will be the quietest, but starting with the early afternoon, keep an eye to the skies and the radar for the arrival of potentially strong/severe storms.

Today's Forecast: Puffy clouds and sunshine. Watch for gusty showers and storms in the afternoon. Strong/severe storms are possible. Highs in the mid 80s.

Tonight: Rain and rumbles fading late. Calmer beyond. Lows 60-65.

Thursday: Partly sunny skies, but still a risk of a scattered shower or storm. Highs in the upper 70s.

The scattered showers will finally push out early Friday, with a cooler but pleasant start to the holiday weekend...(see below)

Discussion:

For a further breakdown of our storm threat today, as well as continuously updating storm tracking maps, head over to the weather blog...already updated at WSAZ.COM

It has now become our turn to meet the storm system responsible for such intense severe weather in the Plains states. Fortunately for us the threats won't be as dire as they were out that way, but we already got a fore-taste of what it might be like with the storms that rolled in yesterday. The first part of the day will be the quietest, with just puffy clouds building alongside the warming sunshine. It's when we turn our attention to the afternoon that the storm risk grows. Have a plan for what to do when the skies turn dark, and gusty winds are going to be the biggest severe-weather-related threat. They won't be everywhere all at once; most likely we'll be tracking squall lines. These will persist even past sunset before fading late as the energy winds down.

Thursday returns another bout of scattered showers, and even a rumble of thunder, but the severe threat will have largely passed. Temperatures will also be a touch cooler as the main front makes its way east of us. Cooler air comes in from this point on, highs this day in the 70s and struggling to get out of the 60s on Friday. Campers keep this in mind, as Saturday morning's readings may well be in the 40s for you.

We will have some exceptional weather for at least part of the holiday weekend, particularly on Saturday. That's the best opportunity for sunshine and pleasant temperatures in the low 70s. By Sunday afternoon and early Monday there will be a few showers popping up, but not for everyone, nor occupying a significant time of the day. I would still keep all Holiday plans as scheduled, with the best day for the backyard barbecue being Saturday.

Have a great day (and a safe afternoon!)
