Snow Melt Signals Mild Weekend

Weekend Thaw to Last into Next Week

After the coldest morning of the season (lows ranged from 6 above in Charleston to +10 in Huntington to 0 in Sandyville, Jackson Co. WV according to Chris Gilmore), temperatures have rebounded with reckless abandon this Friday afternoon and are cresting in the 40s in many areas. With a gusty wind, it still feels chilly in the shade when that 20 mile per hour breeze strikes you in face.

Again tonight, black ice will form where ice has melted into slush and puddles. Lows will drop back into the 20s.

By Saturday, the action of warm air riding over the cold ground will produce an increase in clouds with late afternoon and evening showers around, here and in Pittsburgh for the Steelers game.

Daytime highs will be in the 50s this weekend before jumping to 60 early next week.

The new work and school week will start quietly with no ice or snow delays. The week will trend cloudy and mild thru Wednesday with off and on showers.

Early signs by my trusty European model suggest a possible cold shot and snowstorm for next weekend. Details must be ironed out on that POSSIBILITY.

Again for the weekend, kids should avoid rotting ice surfaces as the thaw breaks up iced over ponds courtesy of highs in the 50s!
